Thanks Den, the carrier just arrived and I am pleased with it, it appears very study I'm surprised actually.

It'll get a outing tomorrow when we take Jess to the vets for a check up.

I absolutely love the Atlas deluxe open top carriers

http://www.hubintsecured.co.uk/acatalog/Ferplast_Atlas_Pet_Carriers_-_Car_Pet_Carriers.html
They are incredibly sturdy.

I've just bitten the bullet and ordered one of these

You won't regret it. Had mine for 3 years so far and not had a single issue.

lay me down, let me go, feeling heavy the ground is cold,
lay me down take it slow I'm ready to stumble, sing & then swing low

I have the cabrios which my cats sleep in, but I only put the door on when it's time for a vet visit and then they decide the most inaccessible spot is where they want to be  But at least it's easy to drop them in the carrier when I catch them

We have a few of the cabrio ones here which I like.

One problem though, we leave them all over the house for the bengals and ive now discovered when one is shut in the others can let him/her out

I agree they are the best. Determined cats can break out of plastic ones - A stray managed to escape from one when I was taking it to the vet, never to be seen again  :(

The metal ones are virtually indestructible + easy to clean as well as easy to get a cat into  :Luv2:

100% toploading wire baskets for me. They are sturdy, last for years and break out proof unlike some of the plastic designs  :scared:

Metalcote sell them for a reasonable price or you can ask your vet to save the P+P  http://www.catbaskets.co.uk/  they company dispatch promptly and sort out problems quickly too  ;D

Looking at it again, I think it might be too heavy for me to carry with a cat inside!

I've been looking for a new one for ages, and the only one I've seen that I like is the one in the first link,

Top loading all the way here, I've got two top-loaders and I wouldn't go back to purely front loaders if you paid me. Gone are the days of trying to get a reluctant claw-brandishing cat into the carrier which was like trying to thread a disgruntled elephant backwards through the eye of a needle. IMO always get the biggest one that you can as cats like Alfie will splay out their legs like Garfleld on the car windscreen to frustrate top entry in my smaller carrier but the big one is very good for those situations.

Cheers

I agree with Ruth's idea of keeping carrier in the room and spraying with feliway. I prefer the top opening carriers, the simple plastic coated wire ones. Its easier to scooop cat up, pop in and SNAP the lid shut quickly LOL!  ;D

My cat was the same, so I have an Atlas 20 with top opening, which works just fine for us.

http://www.petsathome.com/find/category-is-1+cat/category-is-1L+Travel

I've heard Cabrio is good, a few members have this, and that's a good price for them. The link above is for Pets At Home and their range is pretty good too.

I found that having the carrier open in the living room for a couple weeks, sprayed with Feliway made Lexy less scared of it. She was able to go in when she wanted, but it was rare she did. I was able to get her into it easily after that.

Cat carrier problems
« Reply #1 on: June 02, 2008, 12:04:29 PM »
My cat is just over a year old and really hates going into a cat carrier.  He doesnt go in it too often... mainly for vet visits (he's only had 2 so far).. and for taking him to my parents when we have been away (thats been 3 times).  I currently have a standard carrier and am thinking a top opening type might be easier as he clings onto my shoulders and refuses to go into the carrier.  We are having to end up putting carrier on its end and lowering him into it which he eventually accepts.  Does anyone have any good ones?  I have an atlas 20 top opening one for my rabbits which is great for them, going to try putting oscar in it later.  The other types ive seen are the Cabrio cargo  http://www.ukpetsupplies.com/Details.aspx?ProdId=1770
or the savic pet caddy
http://www.pet-supermarket.co.uk/erol.html#5671X40127

Any advice or suggestions? Anyone have either of these carriers and found them good/bad?? HELP!
