That's a shame, sounds like you might have a dodgy unit there, mine can definitely locate a wandering cat around the neighbourhood...I do test it out periodically too and it finds them every time with ease.  Would be interested to see if the second tag is ok!

The loc8tor arrived yesterday and I tried it out on Titch.
My first thoughts are not impressed and I might send it back - it seemed a bit unreliable. I'll try the second tag just to check there is not a fault on the first as they was a problem getting it to register in the first place and the signal kept dropping out - at one point I had to get up to about 4 meters from him. Though I do think the tag was in his mouth at the time

I'm not convinced of the reliability of the thing for my needs which is a shame. I was also looking forward toTitch wearing it when we let him out for the first time....

...and given the recent thread of the cat who escaped from a cattery, I also think they'd potentially be useful for cats being boarded away from home!

After my last rescue this week of stray mum cats having her kittens in the shed, I'm thinking of buying one of these to have handy for next time.

There's at least a couple of us: http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,8686.0.html

I do find that it works yes, it never gets anywhere near the 600feet range with buildings and fences etc in the way but it's enough for me to be able to wander round the neighbourhood and track madam down (it's never Sir, he never goes anywhere!)  It's a bit like that kids game of hotter and colder, it beeps louder and faster the nearer you get to the object in question - in this case, a feline!

I've never seen these before. Do they work well then Fluffybunny? Like you Melysion, my 2 go out at the weekends and after work, they don't go far at the moment, but I do worry they will start to go further and it would be great to have some way of tracking them. Has anyone else on here used them??

Thanks
Emma

Yep mine have loc8tors fitted and they work a treat.  The tags are a tiddy bit bigger than I'd like but they are really lightweight and don't seem to bother them.  They have come in handy on several occasions when I've had to rescue an innocent looking kitty from on top of buildings, trees, and underneath kitchen cupboards...  I do definitely find it gives me additional peace of mind as well.

Toby is sometimes let out into the garden at weekends but I'm concerned that one of these days he will take off elsewhere (its not our flat so cant cat proof garden unfortunately).

So, does anyone know of - or have used - a good cat tracking system? Preferably one thats not too expensive? Just in case the little begger does a runner!
