Finally got my sample size Orijen today (first order got lost in the post).

Expected him to turn his nose up at it but so far so good he seems to like it!

Now if I could only ween him of Sheba...I'm trying to get him on to HiLife but it's not proving easy.

I think he likes the gold packaging  :-[

I didn't have to use it in the end, as it turned up when Dot was improving anyway and she is now almost completely better.  She's back on RC Maine Coon, although I now have 7 bloody kgs of Orijen cluttering up the kitchen - I will probably have another go with this at some stage.

I am thinking of changing my vet though - they wanted to do a number of increasingly invasive things and at no point did they say, "ah, give it a day or 2 and see what happens".  Avaricious so-and-sos (possibly).

Well both the Bozita and Orijen are going down a storm here, not a scrap left from either of them.

The pk syringe is like no other, it sticks and just as you push a little harder it pops and

WHOOSH
it squirts out and either a) makes the cat gag or b) shoots out the other side leaving an oily patch on the curtain

Have you tried Lacto B - worked wonders when the Bengals had Bengly Bum problems?

I really hope that little Dot is all better soon xxx

On the Orijenal tack  :evillaugh: Blips Orijen arrived this afternoon so I put out a few kibbles beside her Royal Canin Mature. She was attracted to the smell and ate a couple of them but it was supper time so she was more interested in her Applaws tuna and seaweed.  I shall let you all know...

I do note that Orijen is only 2% fibre, though, so I shall have to get some additional psyllium.

Ah, got you.  That's OK then, I thought you were telling me the product was useless.  I have just done 6 weeks of medicating Dot orally by syringe and I reckon I can probably do this.  I have a neurological condition which affects my co-ordination and has left me with numb fingertips.  Trying to do the pill thing is hopeless - I'm much better with syringes.  I don't feed Dot any wet food and therefore the granules wouldn't really work.  Introducing a new food at this stage in proceedings is probably not going to be helpful, hence no Canikur.  We'll see how it goes.

Huh?

Just wait 'til you get it, you'll know exactly what I mean  :evillaugh:  It's a tube of brown gooey stuff that is meant to squirted into the mouth, in my experience it ended up all over my cats face and not in her mouth.  Also the carpets got their fair share too  :evillaugh:

but after a chat, went for different treatment called Pro-Kolin

Oh dear  :scared: I think the vet has misled you terribly, the Pro-Kolin has been re-branded and is now manufactured under the name 'kitty face paints' :luck:  :evillaugh:

Mark  :thanks:

I contacted a place called Vetscriptions.co.uk and found out that they operate out of a veterinary practice in Hyde Park. I had phoned for Canikur but after a chat, went for different treatment called Pro-Kolin, which the vet nurse I spoke to said was v. good. It should arrive tomorrow.

The decision now is do I bunk work tomorrow in order to look after Dot and administer the Pro-K asap?  I have an important meeting which could be re-scheduled but it won't look good and I am chasing a promotion.  Arrgh!  I think I'll see what she's like overnight and make a decision when I get up at 4.30am tomorrow.

Is there something in the air so to speak!

Canicur you can get from vetUK and other places - stops diarrhoea  - costs about £2 for 4 sachets. You sprinkle it on their food.

Alice isn't eating Orijen at the moment as I ran out and deciding what to do. She has been eating RC Slimness + Felix wet. I have a feeling it might me the AGAIL senior.

Is there something in the air so to speak! Got up this morning to three piles of sick and then did the tray a little while ago as on a half day and there were runny poos in there too! I think it's Dave who's to blame. I have my suspicions that he possibly ate something off plates in the kitchen as I fell asleep before sorting out the kitchen last night. Off to the vets for his jabs this evening so will have him checked out while we're there.

nothing wrong with his appetite though, feline dustbin that he is already tried to help me with lunch.

Is she eating Orijen too?  What's that stuff you are giving her and where can I get some???  Poor old Dot-Dot is going about once every 2-3 hours at the moment, although it has slowed down slightly.

Further trouble.  Little Miss Picky now refuses to even look at RC prescription. :tired:  I have stuck her back on RC Maine Coon for the moment - on the basis that she has to eat something and this is likely to be closer in constitution to the RC prescription than Orijen.  She's perky, happy, drinking well and now eating and is currently snoozing on her "assistant" chair next to my desk. Healing vibes an' that please.

i would actually say food needs to be introduced over a minimum of 2 weeks, I think a week is too soon to do it properly. If RC is too expensive, I would try JWB, as it is a hypoallergenic food, and even the specialist OK'd it when Tiger had major stomach issues.

If the RC keeps her solid then stick with that, theres no point feeding a better food if she isnt digesting it all and gets stomach ache with it  :shy:

There's usally no shortage of wine bottle corks around Catbird Towers, maybe I'll utilise one of those.

Thanks Mark.  The RC prescription stuff has been fine but I want to get her onto Orijen if I can.  I did the changeover over the space of a week but I think I'll try it again but r   e   a   l   l   y    s   l   o   w   l   y this time.  Fingers crossed, eh.

They always advise people to introduce any food slowly over a week or so by gradually adding the new food and reducing the old. I doubt there are any set rules. I never had much luck with RC sensitivity.

You're not going to believe this but about an hour after I posted the last message, the world fell out of Dot's bottom AGAIN!!!

Can someone give me some advice about how long I should take in moving her from the RC prescription dicky tum food to the Orijen?  I know it's hard to be precise but I have never had this problem with a cat before and would appreciate some rough guidelines.

I'm surprised how many (decent) foods now contain glucosamine - even Tesco own premium dry has it - the adult as well as the senior.

Shame, not sure if they do the fish selection in senior, I got this through the rescue Mabel came from, so it came from Batleys. Never seen it in the shops. Thinking about it, it isn't like some of the chicken in jelly types where it is stringy chicken in jelly, it is just different looking, hopefully someone else who has tried the new HiLife range can expand on this!!

It is rather odd looking, and it doesn't go down well here, which is a shame as Mol has a touch of arthritis and doesnt like Seraquin, and I like the thought of the Omega 3 and 6.

This is the new HiLife, typical ingredients are Chicken & x (depends which flavour, these ar Turkey, Lamb, Liver or Duck) in variable proportions, min 60%, Fish Oil, Vit and Min supplements, tapioca, Glucosamine, Chondroitin. Blurb says contains glucosamine and chondroitin, Antioxidant vit and mins, Fish Oils for Omega 3 & 6, no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

I haven't tried it yet but if it is worthy, I will  :evillaugh:

I still haven't seen a wet food with Psyllium, glucosamine or any other "goodies" in yet.

Edit - not convinced with their vague "byproducts" content  :shify:

If it makes you feel any better, Dot is now eating Orijen because of you.  She thanks you for rescuing her from a life of other wildly expensive "quality" cat foods.

Blips Orijen was despatched on Friday (the day I ordered it  :wow:) so, provided she takes to it, she will have Mark to thank as well  :Luv:

Mark - you're male aren't you?  Well then, never, ever, even in the face of what others like to term "evidence", admit you made a mistake - you can even say you learn't your technique from your cats.  :evillaugh:
