Ah, I thought you wanted to get them all at once...  You definitely don't need to ring them, I used to get a repeat prescription for Tiggy's meds - they hold it on file and even tell you when you only have one repeat left so you have time to get another one from the vets to send in.  You could also get your vet to post the next one to you to save going all that way just for the prescription  :sneaky:

They are really good at getting back to any queries if you email them but like I said, that's defo how it works with repeat prescriptions  :)

Edit:

When you order the 2nd lot just put a comment in the notes section that the prescription is held on file just to be on the safe side.

I don't see why not Gill, at the end of the day you have a prescription for X amount so they should be happy to dispense X amount.   If not then as postage is free it won't cost you any more to order in three batches.  Vetuk hold the prescription on file so next time you order it gets sent straight out, they're normally really quick with delivery too.

Don't forget to go via a charity link though  :wow:

Rang the vet today and they were charging £10 a box more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So now have in my sticky paw a prescription but now I dont know what to do cos the prescription has 3 repeats on it so would be enough for 6 months supply for all 4 cats under the name of Misa!

Will thye let me do this? Vets UK that is.

STronghold is prescription only anyway Gill. Not sure how they compare on that, but they are definitely cheaper on Frontline and Drontal.
Please spay your cat

Thanks Ela and Mark - I must take more notice of the adverts - especially as some of them are more entertaining than the programmes!

Ooops......  maybe it's me who needs some medication  No I'm not certain but it sounds something like it!!  You know how it is when the adverts are on, you go to the loo or make a cuppa - no one watches them properly!!  Unless they are funny cat ones.

Are you sure it was VetUK?

I thought they just sold meds - no surgeries?

Strangely enough Mark Vet UK was advertised on Yorkshire television a short while ago and it gave a list of surgeries in Yorkshire - maybe they only advertise when new surgeries have opened - I've never heard of them until I saw it on the adverts when I was watching TV.

What I hear a lot of now and has happened to me is the vet would rather match the price or close to than write a prescription. The worrying thing is will vet charges now increase if they have lost income on meds?

I asked my vet whether the prescription / online pharmacies had affected his business - he's a partner so is involved in the momey side of things aswell.  He said that it was barely noticeable as the majority of people on long term meds had insurance so a) it was no skin off their nose how much the drugs cost and b) it was easier for them to get them direct from the vets and not have to pay out of their own pocket as the insurance would pay the vet direct rather than the owner paying out to an online pharmacy then having to claim it back.

How do you get your vet to write a prescription for nothing?

I think there are rules about advertising certain veterinary drugs

You are right, in reality it is even an offence for anyone to recommend a prescription verbally. or writing. This applies also to such things as this forum. For example we can mention Frontline Pipets but not Frontline ssssssssssssch, we can name Drontal but not the smaller pink wormer that many people favour. I suppose if a jobsworth was looking we could get into trouble.

Ask them  ;D. They cannot refuse if they have seen the cat within the time scale allowed for that particular drug. At the moment this concession is only until October, I have no idea what has been decided after that.

I'm surprised companies like VetUK don't advertise more as I really don't think many people are aware of how much they could save.

I think there are rules about advertising certain veterinary drugs, they even control what posters go up in the surgery, as us idiots are not allowed to read them.

I think as is often the case, the people that need to save money are the ones that end up paying the most for things. There is a private gas showroom next door to me that sell hideous gas fires and cookers at extortionate prices - most of their customers are OAPs that don't have internet access or know-how.

Tiggy was on long term meds for her thyroid (4-5 years) and then for her kidneys.  I discovered that I could buy online a few years into her treatment, it was a real struggle before I found out about the likes of vetuk - the tablets were literally half the price that my vet was charging

When 'spreading the word' don't forget to spread the word about 5% commision going to charities too...

Forgot to say, if you do order from vetuk then please go to the site via a link on a rescue page.  You just click on the vetuk logo and it takes you to the exact same site as if you had typed the address in yourself.  The charity then gets 5% of your order value donated to them by vetuk.

The rescues on here that have a link are below, I always take it in turns every time I order.

www.chesterfieldcats.co.uk/ - click on vetuk logo on right hand side of home page

http://www.pawsinncats.com/ - click on vetuk logo at bottom of home page

http://www.coventrycatgroup.org.uk/sections.php?id=commission - click on the words 'vetuk link'

http://www.catactiontrust1977.co.uk/ - click on 'vetuk online shop' on left hand side

You would think this day and age (when most peep's even on low income) have access to the Web that they would be more aware.....I feel  to the stomach when I see a pack of 3 Frontline in the Chemists on display for £15.??!  >:(

.....Just thinking....arnt the vets trying to charge £15 per script shortly.....Quite a vicious circle me thinks!

Spreading the word about cheaper meds
My mum got talking to a neighbour she had never spoken to until the other day as her cat chased one of the woman's up a tree  :evillaugh:

Anyway, they got talking about the cost of keeping cats. . My mum told her that I order her frontline etc from VetUK. The woman said she is on a low income but makes sure her cats get what they need. She was very grateful to get the link to VetUK to get 1/2 price meds. She has 3 rescue cats, one of them is on a prescription diet so she will will save quite a bit. I wonder if more people realised that they don't have to pay vet prices, would flea. worm etc and would be less likely to use Bob Martin type things?

I'm surprised companies like VetUK don't advertise more as I really don't think many people are aware of how much they could save.
