Hello Helen,

He is indeed completely cured now. The next thing will be his hyperthyroidism and we'll see if we want to continue with the medical management or I-131 or surgery.

I consulted two feline specialists and they are in touch with the surgeon too. They told me they believe Charlie will have years of quality life left. we shall see. Reoccuring constipation after a subtotal colectomy is extremely rare and I was told by one feline specialist that in her 26 years of practice, only one cat had re-occuring constipation and that was due to the previous surgeon left the colon too long.

My apology that I hadn't posted anything for months. Things were hectic here with Charlie's constipation and hyperthyroidism.

We got back from RVC last Tuesday after Charlie had a subtotal colectomy on the 30th of April. The surgery went very well. The surgeon Susan also removed a lump in Charlie's pancreas and also a lymph node. The pathology came back and they were hyperplasia.

Everything has been very well here and I'm glad I had such a dedicated team at the Royal Veterinary College. The care was simply second to none. The surgeon Susan Gregory has had 20 years of experience of gastrointestinal surgery. I visited several other private referrals and I was concerned they only had one nurse available in the weekend. RVC had about 10 nurses and 10 vets available at night and weekend.

These two boys are enjoying their lives here while I'm trying to pay off the loan for Charlie's surgery. The insurance won't pay as they consider this a pre-existing condition while the rescue said they gave me healthy cats. I don't care about that as long as Charlie is happy and content.

I wonder if Roz can email me her numbers? I'm thinking to cat proof my garden to watch Charlie's stool consistency for the next few months. The only problem is that the fence in my garden is only about 5 feet and my neighbour doesn't allow me to replace HER taller fence.
