I go through a stage with Harry sometimes getting 2 birds a day, some alive some not, he had a mouse last night.

I have a cat who is like a fairy elephant and she manages to catch things, long grass mostly  :evillaugh: She did have a mouse a while back and it was alive when I took it off her but I think it died of shock later.

If my cats have a bird or mouse and its alive I do take them away from them, sometimes they alright but sometimes I have just had to leave them with it because its gone too far.

Yes it is the downside but never punish her cos she is just doing what comes natuarally to cats.

Mine went through every mouse in the garden last year and one of them I saved, it ate cheese in a box once it had recovered from the shock and I took it to the bottom of the garden, 100ft, and put it in some long grass thinking it would be safe.

I turned my back and Misa and Sasa were hunting it, they went staright to the place I had hidden it and the idiot mouse didnt stay put but ran out and it was goodnight mousey. I was so upset.

OK, she caught it again so I cornered it, chucked her out and let it out on the balcony and watched it half fly half fall into the bushes where Lily was waiting again.  So I've locked her in and she's trying to get out.  I'm hoping if I leave it long enough either another cat will get it, it'll fly home or she'll forget about it.  I guess this is the downside of owning a cat.

Lily's collar has been off for just over a week and she's popping in and out using her catflap like a pro.  She's not the most agile of cats and frequently loses her footing when leaping around so we figured she'd never be quick enough to catch anything.  But just know she came running in with a bundle of feathers in her mouth.  It was a live baby bird!  I grabbed Lily and locked her out while I caught the little chick with a towel and put in on the balcony table.  Let Lily back in and she's frantically trying to find where I put it.  The chick has managed to fly off somewhere so hopefully it'll stay in the nest, I figured it had fallen out and she pounced on it, no skill involved.

I read somewhere that I shouldn't punish her for bringing me home stuff, but live birds?  I don't really fancy my flat becoming a grave yard for all things feathered.
