This is a bit of a rhetorical post, in that the situation concerned is well out of anyone's hands now....
I happened to be over at a frriends flat (having a go of their Wii - I NEEEEEEEEEDDDD ONE!), and they had one of their other friends visiting from Edinburgh, and we got to chatting about cats (Laura, friend with the wii, wants a kitten/cat). Turns out this guy has a cat, but used to have two. I happened to ask about the one he no longer had - did it die? No - it is alive and well, and is a gorgeous, soppy lump of a ragdoll. He gave it to a friend because "He used to pooey all over the place for attention"
What?! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that this sort of unusual behaviour tends to indicate stress, insecurity, or possible health problems, not "attention-seeking". I asked if he'd had the cat checked out by a vet, to rule out physical or possible behavioural / environmental problems. No, he said - this was "ages ago" (about 8 months) and the cat was "perfectly fine, he was just a difficult little sod"
I tried to remain tactful, and asked if the cat was still showing this behaviour in its new home. He confirmed it was not. I asked what he felt was the significance of that (thinking it was clearly happier with a more loving, less judgemental owner) - he said it confirmed the cat didn't like him!
idiot! I frankly feel sorry for his remaining cat, and think the poor ragdoll boy has had a very lucky escape! What kind of owner doesn't bother to investigate a problem like this? He struck me as a selfish, self-centered
, who clearly ranks the "value" of a pet by how "convenient" it is, evidently happy to be rid of it should it interfear with his lifestyle or display any kind of need for him to make and effort or to be a responsible and supportive owner. *SIGH*
I'm so glad that forums like this prove there are good, loving cat owners out there, who go to the effort to get advice / treatment etc rather than writing their pet of as "difficult". Honestly, people like that depress me so much.
