Milo is like this, we took him out saturday in it, his starting to associate it with going out, but its a battle to get it on him, once we did it and got outside he was fine but then he started jumping and trying to get out of it, which resulted in me jumping to catch him and dashing indoors.

Jess however knows the word walkies and will chipper at the backdoor and stand till his harness is on and then will cooly wander around the garden

Have you tried a "walking jacket" instead of a harness Lisa?  They are supposed to be more comfortable for the cat, I have just ordered 3 for the Bengals (should be fun and games )

Well I have also tried that but it didnt make any difference. I live in a top floor flat so I dont actually think he thinks he is going outside. Also he hasnt ever been out apart from in his box to go to the vet so im not even sure if he knows what 'outside' is? I just cant wait to move into a little house so I can have a run in the garden..

Swampy purred at the sight of his harness cos he knew it meant going outdoors.  Max rolled over and.....bit it. No good. No idea how, but the key is making them associate it with fun. If you take him to the door, then put it on him so he realises it means going outside, might that work?

Some cats just will not tollerate them.

I think it goes against their nature in a way cos they probably feel like they are being put into something like a straightjacket and then being forced to dance to their humans tune. Of course we know that its us that dance to their tune

Kocka was very old and wasnt bothered and maybe it gave her a sense of being safe, although the way she strutted through service stations, it semed like she was taking me for a walk.

She would tell me though when we were in Devon if she didnt want to go out for a walk and when I would get the harness she would say absolutely no  ;D

Yep that's Zephyr as well.

When I put the harness on Foxy she just went completely mental and ran round the house like a cat possessed then proceeded to throw herself against the doors and windows until I removed the EVIL harness!

Leo & the harness!

Ever since I got Leo Ive regularly tried to get him used to the harness. He still doesn't want to know & will just roll right over & violently bite it!

Ive tried standing him up & encouraging him to walk around the living room & Used his fave treats but he just won't have it!!!

Will he never get used to it?  Ive had him 7 Months & made zero progress..

Now the sunny weather is coming I see him gaze out the window sitting on top deck of his tree & I feel bad as I know he would love it out there.. if only he would wear his blinking harness!
