Sorry if I offended anyone, just thinking ahead and looking at the bleak side.
I met her today. If I'd designed the perfect slave for Fred and Victoria, it would have been her. Sam and Polly liked her. She instantly recognised that Polly's ear had been cut and asked if she had had cancer of the ear, so I knew that she wasn't a novice where felines are concerned. Not many people realise that when they first meet Polly. We chatted downstairs for a while, before she met Fred and Vic, P and S were plaguing her for fuss.
She was calm and quietly spoken with V and F. I could tell that Fred in particular was starting to relax; his eyes went sleepy and he did that silly half-closed eyes expression cats have when they are happy. She liked the cats, has had several before and has grown up children who don't live at home, and no other pets.
I got the impression that she really likes cats and wants them very much as companions. She only works four hours a day but was worried about the cats getting lonely so preferred to have two. I thought: most people work much longer hours and wouldn't give that a thought!
She told me that she'd fostered children in the past and had found it hard to hand them back. We were chatting about how much I'd miss V and F but be glad to see them in a good home.
I got on well with her and thought she was a very kind woman with the cats' interests at heart. She was a young 61! I asked her what would happen to the cats if for some reason she could no longer look after them (I mentioned holidays and stuff). She said that her daughter would take care of them.
I'll be doing a homecheck with my friend Rebekah on saturday morning. I really hope there isn't some glaringly obvious reason why she can't have Victoria and Fred.
Fingers crossed!
