We've had magpies around here for a few months - noisy devils! Theres one in particular who is very aggressive and territorial and seems to be patrolling next door's front garden. This morning I heard that familiar rattling noise they make, and looked out to see a magpie on said front garden, puffing himself up and rattling away like fury, looking towards neighbour's front door. I wondered what all the fuss was about, then suddenly saw the face of a tabby cat, sidling its way from that front door, trying to slope off away from the magpie whilst trying to look nonchalent and 'not bovvered'!
Magpie was having none of it - he followed the cat, still rattling away at him and charged at him if he dared to stop and look round! He followed tabby cat all the way from their front door, around the side of the house, up their drive, until the cat made a bid for freedom up the fence. Magpie was furious now and divebombed poor cat on the fence, until cat disappeared over the other side. Magpie then strode off back to his sentry point on neighbour's garden looking very pleased with himself at having escorted the cat off HIS territory!!
