You wouldnt have heard the vets wrong, it isn't something widely done, and as I said on CC, it is a very personal thing as to whether you could go through with it.
Please spay your cat

I suggest you try another vet.  I have had three pregnant strays spayed and re-homed over the last couple of years.  Depending on the vet, you might have a minimal ($5-10) extra charge.  It is DEFINATELY possible to still spay these girls...and preferrable since there are so many homeless kitties out there already!!  Good luck and bless you for taking her in!

Have cross posted this from Cat Chat as I know it can be fairly quiet at the weekends.  If you're a member of CC then the post is in Health & Behaviour called 'Pregnant stray please help advice needed'

hi all i have been directed over here by a lovley lady and hopefully some of oyu can help me, around 6 /7 weeks ago we went and got our selves a rescue cat from chestnutcatsantctuary.co.uk and decided to call her jessie may now at the same time a neighbour 2 doors up moved home and about a week later my mother in law who lives next door noticed they had left thier cat (nice people not) so anyway she fed it for a couple of weeks down the bottom of her garden as it would not come near anyone but she couldnt take it in cause she has two little yappy dogs who wouldnt like cats.

so we managed to get her in a crate and brought her indoors to ours, our cats are now getting on ok well they are tolerating each other anyway so its a good start, the stray (truly scrumptious) has been with us for a couple of weeks now and doing fine putting on weight etc so took her to vets yesterday to be micro chipped and speyed but thew lovely vet said he couldnt possibly as she is around 4/5 weeks pregnant, so question is what do i do now, these are our first cats and was not planning on letting them have kittens so im not sure what cats do do i need to give her different food or extra food etc .... any advice would be appreciated. thankyou
