Glad Doc's eye is better

Don't know what your vet would make of me then, I feel like I'm always at the vets.

Doc's eye is looking better (I said to Phil last night I think he likes the vet lady as by yesterday it was already looking less swollen etc) It is apparently more the skin around the eye rather than the eye itself.

The cream is going on twice a day and he is starting to ignore me when I call him because he knows what it will be! I am giving him a treat after each application so he doesn't start to dislike me!

I think from now on I will definitely just go on the first day I notice there is a problem, as I felt guilty for leaving him suffering, and also was worrying about him over the few days I left him anyway!

To think I might not see those eyes, makes it so hard not to cry, and as we say our long goodbyes, I nearly do.

If anything is out of the norm for any of my cats, they go to my vets that day. And will seek their professional advice as that is what i am paying them for. If ever they questioned my motives for taking them in, I would register with a new vet. Like us cats only ever have one set of eyes and they need to be looked after, if there is something irritating them then they need to be looked at by a professional straight away rather than let it fester... as for your vet he should never say anything to his customers/clients that puts a doubt in their minds as to whether they should seek veterinary attention or not.

You most certainly aren't a bad meowmy!

When LJ was sick two days in a row and it transpired it as due to really low blood sugar readings, I was at the vets every couple of days for nearly three weeks. It got to the point where I told the receptionists to book me a seat in the waiting room! I think by making light of the fact I was in there all the time, it made the situation a little less stressful.

I'm sure Docs eye will be fine. Let us know! :)

 :thanks: guys

Yes I think thats why Doc got away so easily Gill as I didn't really want to touch the eye so I was sort of hesitating as I tried to open it and look inside etc - he is first one over for a fuss but also first one to do a runner when he catches on to what you are doing!

It wont be the same vet tonight as that was the vet we used to take him to before we moved house - the new vets seem nice enough although they said Doc and Gerti were overweight  :shoosh: - Gerti is definitely tubble but Doc is more stocky - he is probably more than the "average" adult male cat weight but he isn't fat I wouldn't say.

Anyway - I don't know much about these vets but when our lot went for MOT and vaccs they seemed nice enough - they sell things for local CP on reception which gave them bonus points with me!

Clare, not just bank holiday but Doc has a lovely knack for these things in the week before payday! I think both other previous non-routine vet visits with him were paid for by cheque for the same reason  :shify: (which reminds me, must find cheque book  ;D ) I think from now on I will just take him straight away anyway as I have just been worrying about him and he has probably been in some unnecessary pain, even though he is still acting bright as a button.

Last time he was just given drops (after that stuff was put in the eye to check for scrapes) so I wonder if perhaps he is just succeptable (sp?) to that sort of thing.

Vets who say stuff like that are not good and my vet was at great lengths to say that I was right to take Misa. I think its not just what they say but the way they say it.

They can put some stuff in the eye which colours it to see if it is scratched. I always thinks that its better if a vet looks at eyes cos will be easy to hurt the eye when they wriggle if you are trying to get something out. Eyes are so delicate and am pleased to see Franta has just cleanwed his eyes  ;D

Good luck at the vets and just try to avoid the nasty one

These things always seem to happen on a Bank Holiday as well don't they

Hope Doc's eye is much better today, and it clears up very soon

Feel like one of the stupid Yahoo Answers people and I should have just took him when I realised it was sore.
He fights (play fights) with Cheese alot so I wonder if she has scraped his eye by accident or if the hair I think I saw (he is quick at running away!) is whats causing it.

  You're not like the stupid Yahoo Answers people   Don't blame you for waiting given what the vet said last time.  Good luck at the vets tonight.

Jaffa used to get conjunctivitis and I used to wait a day or 2 to see if it came to anything, but I soon learnt that it wasn't going to get better by itself and that it responded quicker to treatment if I started him on eye drops sooner rather than later.  He's not had it for a couple of years now (touch wood).

We had a vet at our old practice who told me one time about Dragan that he "practically lived there".  He was 17 had chronic pancreatitis, a heart murmur and arthritis!  I felt so small that I, too, used to feel embarrassed about taking him.  I told one of the vet nurses what he had said and she said to take no notice of him.  It doesn't help though when you are worried about your cat and I resolved to b***er him and after that just made sure he wasn't on when I took Dragan.  Hope Doc's eye has improved today and good luck at the vets.

Doc has had a sore, red, runny eye a few times before and the vet sort of laughed at us (old vet) for bringing him in straight away as if we were hypocondriacs and "most people would wait a few days before bringing the cat in as it would probably go away by itself"

Anyway.. I noticed on Saturday that he had a sore eye that he was keeping mostly closed so I was wiping the gunk away and tried to get a look at it (Phil drew short straw by being the one to hold him because he is STRONG and he managed to scrape a really deep mark in Phil's arm trying to get away!) I thought I saw something like a little hair in his eye and tried to get it out but wasn't sure if i'd actually succeeded.

Anyway, we left it a few days after the last time but its still looking bad so I have booked him in for this evening after work - I feel terrible for making him wait so long but at the same time felt stupid last time because I took him right away and it wasn't really anything!!

Feel like one of the stupid Yahoo Answers people and I should have just took him when I realised it was sore.

Just feel a bit like I have let him down  :(
