Did you see the blood come from his eye originally ?  It could be under the eyelid or in the eye socket itself i guess if something has managed to get in there or jab him somehow, Another strong possiblily could be from the tear duct itself.

Could you look in his nostrils/mouth to see for any signs of trauma there, perhaps if it was his nose and he sneezed or shook his head blood landed on his eye when you first saw it.

I'd suggest further investigation.

He's only about 10 months and no, I don;t DEFINITELY know it was from his eye, but there's nowhere else it could have come from.

We're keeping a very close eye on him and he was fine again yesterday and again this morning. If it recurs though, he's going straight back...  :(

The most common cause of bleeding in the eye is hypertension (high blood pressure).

The high blood pressure causes capillaries in the eye to bleed.

It would be useful to test for this and kidney function.

I don't know what the problem could be, sorry, but that IS very worrying... especially if there is no trace of external injury.  I would take him back to the vet for further investigation if I were you!!  Hope it's nothing serious and Jake will heal soon!!

Bleeding from the eye...

Has anyone ever had any experience similar to this:

Jake came home the night before last and we immediately saw blood in his eye. Straight to the vet, no messing. A cotton swap, a dose of antibiotics and £90 later he seemed fine - she had a good look around and couldn't find any sign of a cut or anything. Anyway, all was OK yesterday, and then this morning there were several patches of blood on our sheets, where he slept all night.

Don't really know what to do. If we take him back he'll have to be 'put under' so they can investigate inside his third eyelid. But there's nothing much going on and he's fine again now...
