Feliway diffusers - safety issues

I've used the same diffuser with new refills almost constantly for 2 years    Didn't know there was a limit to how many refills you were meant to use in one plug in.  I've not had any problems.  I've not used it for about 6 weeks now and I don't think the boys need it, so don't think I'll bother anymore.

All of mine get warm

They have safety cutout circuitry inside.

also I got a feliway because we are going away and I want the cats not to be stressed and he doesn't want me to leave it plugged in

The instructions say replace the actual plug in bit after 6 months of continuous use or after the use of 6 refills including the original one. 

JS, I bought two for the boys when we moved and only really need one plug in unit so I'd happily send you a diffuser - it's just the beige plug in bit, no liquid as I used that when we moved but it has only been used once.  PM me your address if you want me to send it.

I said three times from memory, it could be a couple more. Remember one refill should work for about 4-6 weeks, so if you have 3 refills you have about 5 months worth of Feliway. (if the three times is right). Check the box, the information sheet inside will tell you what you need to know.

They are expensive, I think. Sadly, we've got to try it because Old Mog is terribly unsettled so there's no option. (Rescue remedy worked for a little while but doesn't seem to do anything now.)

I'm quite worried I spent money on a diffuser that might not be safe to use now after reading it's advised they're only used three times. (That's all I need - I've got to get more blood test strips for LJ ASAP too. )

Right, thanks. I'll bear in mind aboutreplacing the diffuser too - I actually bought it off EBay, maybe I should message the seller and ask how many times it's been used.

They get warm, part of the product. No worries on that. What you should watch for is when you've replaced the oil well 3 times I think. After that they recommend getting a new diffuser for safety.

I've replaced mine twice in all the time I've had it as Lexy isn't too fussed with it on or off.

If they are like an air wick type diffuser, then I would expect them to get a little warm to the touch but not really hot. One thing to watch out for with these oil diffusers is paintwork! We took one out of a socket to plug in the ironing board and put it on the windowsill upright. At some point it fell or was knocked over and some of the oil got on the windowsill, it proceeded to melt the paint away so we will have to repaint the sill once I find out what paint/colour barrett homes use on their windowsills!!!

Nope, it's just warm. I'm what's considered paranoid!

It says on the leaflet 'the internal surfaces of the device reach high temperatures to encourage evaporation of active ingredients'... I used one before and after I moved and that used to get pretty hot too.

They do get a little warm - the oil needs to warm up a bit to release the pheromones. I would worry if it was hot though

Are the diffusers supposed to get warm? I'm a bit concerned about the safety aspect. I think they might be helping Old Mog a little, but we've only had them plugged in a couple of days so I think it's too soon to tell.
