Yes, they have their uses.  We know where our loc8tor is - under a gorse bush.  lost forever.

Me again

Loc8tor came into its own today when we couldn't find Milly anywhere.  Turns out she'd gone for a wander down the back of the washing machine and got stuck down the back of the utility room units   She wasn't miaowing when called so goodness knows how long it would have been before we'd found her without it!

Well big thumbs up from me!  Milly's been on a bit of an adventure today - first of all she climbed a tree and got stuck - then when we got her down she just legged it out of the garden and was gone for ages.  I was able to find out how far she'd gone and know that she was still actually relatively near, and felt really happy that if it had been getting darker I could have gone round to the right house to get her back.  I would definitely recommend these, especially for people whose cats are either known wanderers or are just starting to go out.

I might need this just for locating my three inside the house (see my other thread on my amazing ability to lose them all, inside a one-bedroom house)

Yvonne, I'm sorry about Spike - does he wander off a lot?

Really useful for new pets I think when they go off on their wanders for the first time, it really put my mind at rest, I used it a lot and found him quite quickly.

Yes that's exactly what I am using it for, it's really quiet where we live but there lots of exciting things like fields and a river bank just a short stroll away so I'm sure they could wander quite a long way pretty easily.

60 pets Gwen!!?

one locator + 2 tags = £60
each 2 tags - £25

a locator covers up to 24 tags.

2 pets £60
4        £85
6         £110
8         £135
10        £160

amd so on......

y main worry was the amount of tags you would lose  until it was pointed out you would probably be able to find them again  and then I thought thats good, think of all the money you could save with being able to find a lost collar! :naughty:

Hi Fluffy - the loc8tor was great and well worth the investment for my own piece of mind.  Homer was given his freedom just after the bonfire celebrations in early November and believe me it was well used.  Right up until he lost it under a gorse bush, so we know where it is but it is (because we can track it) but it is a very thick bush and we have not been able to retrieve it.  I would certainly do it again to a new kitten.

 :thanks:

The standard loc8tor is £59.99 in Maplins including two fobs (you can get it a bit cheaper on ebay), and it's about £24.99 for two additional fobs.  I found them really easy to program.  Basically you have a little handheld unit and when you switch it on you can tell it which fob you want to look for and it gives you directional arrows to follow and it beeps more and more quickly the nearer you get to it.  On a clear range it is supposed to work up to 600ft although I haven't yet determined how much this is hampered by fences, walls, shrubs etc.

There is also one called Loc8tor plus which is about £100, this includes all kinds of other spandangley gadgets which I don't think would necessarily be helpful locating a wandering cat.

How are you finding the loc8tor Yvonne?  How have you attached it to the collar, is it just dangling like any other fob, does it seem to bother him?

I've just bought one as it's time for my horrors to be let out so I'd be interested in how you're getting on with it.

Ok mine arrived yesterday and the tracking device is attached to Homer.  We have only tested it around the house at the moment, so far so good, the plan is to let Homer have his freedom after the bonfire celebrations so if anybody is interested I shall post an update after he has been let out and no doubt wandered off too far for my liking.

I cannot think of anything else that I need locating at the moment other than the cats.  Although I could see that it would be really useful for toddlers and young children and would have been ideal about ten years ago when I lost the whole family in a maze.

If you decide to get one please do keep us posted as to the effectiveness etc. you can be our little guinea pig.

If you read up you will see that they are usefull for loads of things lost keys, mobile phones, kids. May be worth a go. Mind you I don't about lost kids which reminds me  when we were in the Isle of Man once we walked past a lost children post on Douglas front and said to our daughter 'go in there and tell them you are lost and we will come and get you later'. We didn't mean it of course, not a bad idea though.

Good morning Ela,

So if it is the same item then the one on Ebay is retailing at about £64 and Pet Planet £110 - quite a bit of difference.

By the way Spike came home last night, his little wanders appear to be getting longer and longer.

They are a little cheaper on Ebay but not sure if it is exactly the same thing

I think it is, in fact some of the pics are identical.

I have just passed the info onto my daughter and son-in-law. (although they don't know it yet as they are in Cornwall and we have Jonty) When we take Jonty a walk in the country park I am always on pins if I don't see him all the time.
