Tigger's picked up a bit, he's eaten a bit more, i will see how he goes over the week end, we have an appointment with the vet on 4th Feb, but as i say--i will see how he goes.

Milly's mum,
he's had a few courses of ABs, the last one was for 7 days but the swelling is still there, plus he has lumps under his chin which seem to be getting bigger.

If he had a deep abcess that would make him feel like poo. An x ray may help?
I know your vet gave ABs but 4 days isnt very long for a pus filled tooth cavity.

Aah Chris I feel so sad for you.  The anxiety and stress of having a sick cat is horrendous and yet has to be borne when you love them.  I so hope Tigger picks up and hope the vet's visit brings some help.  My thoughts are with you and please keep us updated/

i do go out before him and have a look round, but if he goes off into a neighbouring garden he may be lurking there!!
he's been out twice today and no mis-haps, but he is exhausted when he comes back and sleeps and sleeps,he was in the garden this morning and he was up the tree then he came in and slept all morning, he went out again before, was'nt out long, now he is sleeping again,  plus he's not eating as much as he used to, well not today anyway, he's very lethargic, i am worried and upset, i think we will be taking him to the vet next week, he does'nt seem to good, he's not grooming properly, i have watched him and all he seems to be doing is wash his face.
I am dreading going to the vet but i know he can't go on and on like he is.

Darned visitors.  As I said mine used to be terrorised by this anti social ginger tom.  Meg sounds a feisty girl.  Hope the ginger tom gets grounded by his mum for a while (onlly a joke but I do know it isn't funny).

All I suggest is you go out before Tigger and have a look round?  Good luck

Maddie,
the cat runs when it sees me!! i chased it out of the garden the other day and Tigger was'nt even out there!
couple of years ago the same cat got Meg, and she is only a little thing, poor thing was absolutley petrified! we could'nt go near her for a few days as she kept spitting at us, we had to wait for her to come round, she was only in the garden, she does'nt go out of the garden now, which i am glad of, she is more of a house cat really, she is a bit timid, the least noise and she runs in, and she runs in if she hears cats fighting!! don't blame her! lol
she has a different temprament to Tigger, he will be cuddled, Meg wont! if you do try to cuddle her it can only be for a second! on her terms!!! she will get on my knee and i can stroke her, but if she's had enough she will let you know!!!
they are as different as chalk and cheese!
sometimes she will go up to Tigger and he will put his head down for her to sniff, and he did this before, useally he will he will bring his head up quick so that she runs, that's his way of saying "ok that's enough!" but not tonight, he just let her sniff till she walked away, Meg will miss him, as we all will.
Chris

I can't get Tigger to another vet, i don't have any transport, the one i go to is local and very good, i know he would'nt say he had a tumour if he did'nt, the other vets are further away and i don't want Tigger to be in his carrier any longer than he has to, i know he is'nt well because he is'nt himself, he's had loads of anti-bs and the swelling is still there, the lump under his chin came up just over a week ago,he's had an infection in his mouth before and his breath smelt then but not like it does now, it's really awful.
He's still eating, and he's been outside today but he does'nt seem to be going to far, and that horrible cat got him again, not as bad as the other day though, but it still took it out of him, he's been sleeping since, he was on my knee earlier and he felt a bit hot, i am worried if he goes out and that cat gets him again and he wont be able to get home! cos when he came in today he looked really really tired.

I agree get a second opinion. My cat had mouth problems and his glands were always "up".

I am sorry to hear this, but I would be tempted to get a second opinion, lymph nodes being up can be a sign of an infection too.
Please spay your cat

Sorry to hear this news Chris.

If I have any advice, it is to take each day as it comes  and to make your decisions when you come to them.

Give Tigger a gentle scratch from me.

thank you for your kind replys, i am getting my head round it now.
he has slept most of the day, waking up for his food, sleeping again, then coming to me and getting on my knee for a cuddle and sleep, he is still lively, he had a go at Meg before for annoying him! he was on my knee and Meg was sniffing his tail, then they were either side of the door of the living room and were boxing!! which they do sometimes!

Tigger has been to the vet this morning and we saw another vet--more experienced than the young girl and he could open his mouth properly!---he said he made a mental note of the last time he saw him and thought it may he may have something more sinister! i told him about the lumps i had found and he felt them, he said they are his lymph glands and that tells him that he has a mouth tumour, we don't know how long he has got--it could be weeks or months depending on how aggresive it is, i asked the vet if it would be better to have him pts now, he said he has still got quality of life--he is lively, and as long as he is still coming for cuddles--which he is--, his coat is still in good condition so that means he is still grooming himself--which he is--he is still eating but as i told the vet, yesterday he looked as though he was having difficulty with his food and did'nt eat much this morning, but when we brought him home he went straight to his food and ate some more, the vet has given him an antinflammitery injection and said that will make him feel more comfortable, he said to take him back in 2wks, but if he starts to go down hill to take him sooner and when that does happen we will have to let him go, i have had a good cry and i keep filling up, the tears are coming again now as i am typing this :(

Tigger is asleep in front of the fire now, i don't want to have him pts, i hope he goes in his sleep, if i do have to have him pts i can't stay with him, i'm not being awfull, i just can't do it, i want to remember him how he used to be.
we had a dog untill 6yrs ago, she collapsed and died at home from a heart attack and all i could do was sit with her and talk to her,i called the vet out and he got here 5mins after she had gone, she was 15, she was called Lassie, and i just said to her "if you want to go Lass you go!" and she just passed away, it was so sad.

Anyway i will keep you all updated on his progress.

Chris.

Hi Chris, I'd be inclined to try and get him to vet tomorrow.  Our Gandolf RIP had an abscess on his face years ago and it was very nasty.  Wouldn't want it to affect Tigger's eye.  Not sure if it's possible with the anti biotics Tiggger is on, but it's possible to have long lasting anti biotic jabs now altho I suspect they may cost more. Have a word with the vet to see what he/she says.

His face is swollen again on one side! i'll phone the vet again tomorrow and get him in befor 24th.
He is still eating though, he's just had another bowl of meat and ate the lot, and he finished off what Meg left too!!!
but now and again i can see that 3rd eye lid coming up in the corner of his eye on the side of the swelling.

Carol,
the lumps are under the skin, they feel like piles! but at the wrong end! lol
i have to take him back on the 24th anyway for a check up, the swelling from the abscess is'nt too bad it seems to be going down, sometimes it looks like it's swelled again and other times it does'nt!! i think his fur sticks out and makes it look puffy at times.

Chris are the lumps under the skin or on the surface?  Korky often has lumps under his chin but they are surface lumps (which eventually drop off or can be scratched off along with some fur).  They are thought to be due to an allergy (unidentified).  If Tigger's lumps are are under the skin I'm afraid it really does sound like another vet visit.

As you may know Tigger has been having treatment for a swelling on his face due to an abscess in tooth cavity, well he has had another course of antibiotics, and he's been a little horrer getting these pills down him, i've tried all sorts with him--putting them in his food, even in fish which he loves, eventually he did eat the food, but wether he got all of the tab i can't be sure! he cottened on in the end what i was doing and just turned his nose up at the food! he has really stressed me out on this! i think he got 5 out of 7 tabs, he would'nt let me get hold of him to put them in his mouth, and i don't want him to turn on me cos he's never done that befor, and if he ever has to have more tabs one day he may remember all of this!! he lets me feel around his mouth were the swelling is so it can't hurt him and he eats like a horse--when there are no tabs in the food, anyway, now i can feel small lumps under his jaw line, they feel like a small bunch of grapes, they don't seem to hurt him, i did feel them the other week, they feel a bit bigger now, i thought the vet may of noticed them when he examined him, could they be glands?

i dread taking him back to the vet, i know it may sound awfull to say, even though i love Tigger i can't affored any more vet bills :'(

Chris.
