so glad your parents could help Lily as one door shuts another one definately opens

I agree with that Dawn.  I miss my Matilda every day but I know I wouldn't ever have even known about Bella without Matilda going to the Bridge, let alone have given her a forever home.  I like to think that Matilda and Roxy are together on the Bridge now.  I was thinking about them both the other day and saw a rainbow a few minutes later  :(

Thanks everyone for your kind words about Roxy, and I just wanted to give an update to you all.  After quite a lot of soul-searching (particularly my dad, who was devoted to Roxy), my parents decided that the house was too empty without a pet and that they could still offer another dog a very good home.  They live quite near a boxer rescue centre and went to have a look, thinking they might well come away empty handed.  They told the staff all about Roxy - a white boxer - and they were desperate to introduce my parents to Lily, a one-year-old white boxer who had been dreadfully abused by her previous owners and was being ignored by most visitors to the centre because she's white and because she's skin and bones.  The inevitable happened - they fell in love, they took her home ... she's not Roxy but she's fitting in beautifully and seems overwhelmed by the kindness now being shown to her.  If one good thing has come out of Roxy's departure, it's that Lily is getting another chance at life.

Thanks both.  I took Bertie to the vet on Saturday, and it's the same vet where my parents took Roxy, but she was put to sleep by the emergency vet so they hadn't yet heard what had happened.  When I told the vet he was really upset and said he would get the receptionist to organise a sympathy card for my parents, which I thought was lovely.

I had the sad news last night that my parents' 12-year-old boxer dog, Roxy, has been PTS due to kidney failure.  She had a stroke earlier this year and had been poorly for a while, but it's still come as a terrilble shock - I was 15 and still living at home when they first adopted her, so she felt like my pet as much as theirs.  I hope she meets up with my Matilda on the bridge  :'(
