i had someone knock on the door the other night asking money for the deaf - he said it costs thousands each week to run, and did I have a spare couple of grand - the reply was 'if I did, it woudl have been given to the charity I volunteer for!! Didn't stop him for long though, but when he asked if I had any spare money, he got told 'sorry, no, I already give to 3 charities a month.'  (although technically 5 if you include fostering!!) at which he finally gave up!!

I support my local branch of CP and Purrs.

It really hacks me off when I'm out and about and get solicited by folks in the street holding clipboards and doing surveys / petitions for charity or those who are collecting etc. However, my standard reply to them is "Sorry, I only support Cats Protection" which usually tends to work pretty well.

Just as annoying are the letters I get through the post asking for donations, even more so when they have the cheek to put a pen in as well... 

If I give to charity, it is on my own terms and in my own time. This is mostly donations of food, procuring items to sell on the stall and taking the Tobster to CP events as a meet & greet cat.

I would go for animals anyday and would be seriously angry if someone withdrew money cos it wa going to an animal charity 

People and children who have high regard for animals do not usually go on to harm humans, we may not like em much but.......... , However the reverse is true and that harming animals often becomes harming people.

Although I do buy things in various charity shops, I have to say that its normally Cats Protection who get any money I can afford, and of course the auction and raffle tickets etc on here.  Its something very close to my heart, and if anyone were to tell me I should donate to 'people' charities, I would tell them to get knotted

I've never quite got that argument.  I don't see how a defenceless animal is any less worthy than a defenceless child, and why choosing to donate to an animal charity makes one uncaring about people (and lets face it - many donate to charities that help both animals and people).  And of course, helping animals often helps people too.

Reckon you're right Dawn.

See, the thing is, that a great deal of the work done by animal charities is righting the wrongs done by humans to these animals. If people didn't mistreat, neglect and exploit em in the first place then there would be no necessity for folk like Teresa, Dawn et al to do what they do every day.

Animal rescues get my money every time.

I had a boss like that, we used to donate a £1 instead of giving christmas cards to each other in the office so we got abou £50 and picked a charity every year, one year an animal charity was picked and he asked for his £1 back!  Another guy I worked with said it was wrong that oh and I are leaving part of our house to CP in our will, cheek, he would have preferred it if I left it to him I'm sure!

Just been a bloke on the Jeremy Vine show berating folk who donate to animal charites instead of 'human' ones. Can't see his point mself, its not as if animals can raise money for themselves is it?

Anyway, I'd rate animals over the vast majority of oxygen thieving wasters that call themselves human any day (present company excepted   ).
