Hi Desley, I think it's working, he's not eating excessive amount's, Misty has never been Greedy
But He is definately eating more

Fingers crossed, my vets gave me the powder to try, I just sprinkled it on their food.

Hi Mark, well I put a capsule into some beef paste stuff, and he purred while he ait it 
not wanting to count my chickens, but so far so good 

the powdered stuff is thomsons brand and the ingredients are, pre cooked wheaten flour, powdered slippery elm n sugar

I also got him some sardines in sunflower oil

I just sprinkled the powder from the capsules over Clapton's food and it didn't put him off at all. I got Holland & Barrett own one as the Potters one had something added.

Ok was through to Aberdeen today and have got the Slippery elm Capsules + the powder
Ach..... I've just noticed that the powders unmalted Misty loves things with Malt in them

I used to use the Holland & Barrett capsules (no fillers), one capsule = 370mg which is the correct dosage for one day.  I just pulled the capsules apart then mixed the contents in with a little Tuna (take a small ball of tuna, squeeze the juice out, sprinkle on capsule, pour on a little hot water to dissolve) alternatively sandwich pastes are popular, Tiggy liked the Beef ones but make sure there's no garlic or excessive salt in them.

I am really interested in this Slippery Elm now, Misty is still not eating an awful lot (maybe half a tin per day)
He has been sick several times (but is not bringing up food, just mouthful's of bile) and I'm starting to wonder
if this Slippery elm would help ?? Just dont know where to get it ??? I did have a look on the net, and have
discovered that it is a natural herbal remedy, and u get it in many different form's, I was looking at the powdered
stuff which would need to be mixed with water, but I dont know ,where,how much or how to administer it ??
use a pippet ???

STuart, I wouldnt use anything in brine, I could be wrong here, but I think the extra salt might be an issue to cats with renal issues.

Hi Elaine, MR Misty is still not looking at HIS renal food  and I have resorted back to giving HIM senior
I did try mixing it with the renal, but HE wouldn't look at it. I did walk past the sardine shelf in t=Tescos
the other week and did think about them, but there were so many diffrent varieties what type
should I get?? Sardines in Brine ?? and where do you get this slippery elm bark from ??

Hi Stuart, how is Misty's eating habits now?  Have you tried using some slippery elm bark syrup to help combat any excess stomache acid?  If she is suffering from excess tummy acids, this will make her feel nausous and unwilling to eat so much.  Its a bit of a viscous cycle I'm afraid, they feel sick and so dont eat but if they would only eat they would feel better.  I am a firm beleiver that its better they eat what ever they will eat, even if its not on the vets menu, than not eat at all or eat too little.  If you can combat the sick feeling, she may eat more.
I was fairly lucky for the most part as Winston always had a pretty good apetite but there were times when I'd sit with him over a few days, trying to get him to eat again.  Things that helped were, heating up the food as you have tried already, sardines were often a big help as was scrambled egg.  B vitamins are very important too for CRF cats and it may well help for you to look into supplements.  I used to give Winston B vitamins with trace iron in the form of Pet Tinic.

I personally would try mixing it with something else, either so he gets 2 meals of renal + whatever, or he gets Renal for one meal and something else for his second. It is much more important that they eat something than eat 'special' food.

Hi Sam, Like Millys Mum said, He may be getting bored of the renal food, just put out a fresh pouch for him
and he licked all the gravy again and there was me thinking He liked it cause he was always licking his lip's
after being fed dont think his teeth are bothering Him because I got Royal Canin Dental, and He crunches
His way through those everytime i give them to him, Misty has never been greedy, but he has always been Fussy

straight forward answer
Think I may try some senior food mixed in with the Renal, cause that's what he was eating b4
what is annoying me also is that I have bought these Treats for Him (Felix Chicken Lickin's) and he Loves them
thats how I'm giving him His Fortekor, I drill a small hole in the centre of one of these and push the pill into it 

at the end of the day it's better for Misty to eat something  than nothing at all

edit: over the years it was not uncommon for me to come home from work to find the remain's of the packet that
held the treat's, the two of them used to combine forces, 1 would hold the packet down, while the other would
go to work on it with His claws and just rip the bag to shred's I have seen Misty walking about with Treat
bag in his mouth, but He has discovered it takes 2 to get into it

Do you think that maybe he is bored of renal food? Its not the most appetizing of meals, maybe some senior would interest him.
IMO its better he eats normal food and be happy then pick at the renal and live a little longer.

I have gave Misty His Breakfast, and Scrutinized Him while he was eating  I know know why the food is flattened
onto the plate! the little toe-rag is just licking all the gravy I even watched Him spit out a piece of food 
at some point of the day he does eat some of it, but I am unhappy that he starts off by just licking the gravy
I have tried mashing it down, but he seem's to do the same, and I don't want to put it in the blender, cause I think
that changes the flavour, I purree'd some brisket beef for Hamish with a little water, and he didn't eat it but when I
put the Beef in front of Misty, he just curled his nose at it too
He still seem's to be going to the toilet regularly, average = 1 poo & 3 wee's a day, But I still want him to eat more

any suggestion's ??

Hi, as some of you may Know, My Misty has the early stages of CRF, I have been getting pointers from Mark, but I wanted
to publicize this post to get more views, Misty has never been a Greedy Puss, that was always Hamish's trait. and I don't
know if I'm being paranoid, because I feel as though I'm following him around to see how much he is drinking and eating

He is Eating His Renal food, but in very small quantities, I was opening 2 pouches per day (but was throwing out most of it)
I also noticed that He is pushing His food FLAT on the plate ? which I dont know why? but I feel as though He cant get His
teeth into it, and I forever proping it back into a mound so He can eat it again
He has been on His Fortekor Medication for 5 day's now, and haven't really seen that much difference in Him, He has been
sick once, but there was no food in it, only bile and some hair(not a lot) - side effect's of Fortekor apart from the bad one's
I read that there may be an increase in appetite, I'm still waiting for it to happen all he has had today is about half a pouch
and I have run out of chicken legs to give him, I did give him some Tuna yesterday, and he ait most of that (apart from the
Bit's that were mixed in with His Renal Food )

I have been trying various thing's Mashing down his food, adding boiling water, microwave, sprinkle'ing crushed cat treat's
over it, all to no avail  I just want him to eat a little more than He is doing (or am I being Paranoid?)
Misty is over 16 and a Half yrs old, I know old people dont eat as much as they used to when they were young, is it the
same with Cat's ?? I'd say justnow he is Lazing/sleeping 18-20hrs a day
He was 5.4kg's the last time he was weighed, and I'll get His weight tooken again when I take him back for more bloods

but I was just wondering does anyone out there have a secret weapon for getting their Furbabes to eat ??
I know Misty Likes Gravy, and he'll lick all the gravy off the Renal food, does anyone have a good gravy recipe for Cat's with
CRF ??
