Title: Ideas for Christmas presents please...
Post by: JackSpratt on November 11, 2007, 21:19:56 PM
....for the "more dignified" cat. (ie: older!) None of my cats are particularly 'playful' anymore, preferring to sleep most of the time! My cousin has already bought some of the small mice my youngest cat loves for my lot ....shhhh, it's a secret!....but I'm at a loss.

I don't see the point buying the stockings because there's always one type of treat they aren't interested in. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm cheap - I buy them a tray of the gourmet cat food as a special treat - and if they are lucky they also get some turkey ...

If they like blankies or huggy toys to sleep with I'd get them that. Lexy is getting stocking (another one cos I opened the other one to get the sheepmouse for her). And some treat foods for the holiday period.

My partner said the same. Every year I go and buy toys in the hopes of them reliving their kittenhood, only to have my hopes dashed! He told me to just "buy them posh food."

Looks like that's general concencus as Ruth is going the "food route" too.

Radiator bed?  Snugglesafe heat pad?  Or just lots of food  ;D

I still have playful cats so it will be yet more toys for my lot.  I think they're getting a new cat tree since I promised Mosi one months ago and he's still not got it.  I want to get one of those hammock style beds too (that stand on the floor).  No doubt they'll get lots of treats as sell  ;D  It's Mosi's birthday at christmas too (christmas eve) so he will have to have 2 presents  ;D

I bought a couple of snugglesafe pads last year but they aren't very practical as they are the size of a frisbee and rock-hard and quite thick so its difficult for a cat to get comfortable on one.

Jaffa doesn't have any problem getting comfy on his!  ;D  He does prefer his hot water bottle though.  At night he has his hot water bottle at the top of the bed and the heat pad at the bottom.  He starts off on the bottle but when that cools down he moves down to the heat pad as it stays hot longer.  Spoilt?  Of course!  ;D

I bought the heat pad last year for him to take to the cattery as I didn't think I could take a hot water bottle and ask them to fill it with water!

I think blankies are the best, mine dont like posh nosh and some play but not all so noy going into overkill like last year cos its just not worth it.

Hmmm, they already have a LOT of blankies and beds in general. (Including a radiator bed.) I have two beds to one cat ratio already! :evillaugh:

Think mine are haivng a new carrier for the car for their Christmas and Easter present. Going to go to a petshop next week that stocks them and check that it actually fits in the car and then if it does order it for them. They'll also be having some new skittykitty mice as they have absolutely murdered the ones they've currently got.

If you are buying blankets or bedding for your cats please consider getting them one from Cupar Animal Trust Shelter (CATS). They make fantastic quality bedding from double layer really thick fleece so it's lovely and cosy and will personalise it for you. It machine washes very well with no shrinkage or loss of shape. The money goes to help CATS continue their fantastic work so you can make your cat very happy and help less fortuante cats at the same time. It's a win win situation!  ;D

I bought Miss Boopy one at the start of the year to take over when I visited her and Sarah was happy to make it to a size I requested and I was thrilled with the quality of it and it has a huge thumbs up from Miss Boopy who takes her blanket everywhere she goes which is fantastic as she is a very hard girl to please.

We will try to build Oliver a custom made cat tree/scratch post.  If we (well, more like Cristiano who has to take charge in this sort of job... I am a DIY eejit!!) can't manage, I was thinking of a sheepskin like LeighK got for Alfie and Frankie.  They love it and I think it will go very well for the "dignified" purrs, too!!

A nice warm blanket, cushion or a doughnut bed.  Have a look on ebay for cat beds to get some idea.  A nice drop of cat nip, will always go down well.

You should have got him a da mouse, that's verging on cruelty buying a da bird without a da mouse  >:(

Hmmmm.....no more beds! Nine is quite enough for four cats! :shy: I'll definately check out the auction, though - it should start sooner!

I am extremely concerned to hear that Barry showing no interest. Erm .... how do I put this SR ..are you doing it right? I know the knee may be playing up and perhaps poor Barry's tail but give it another whirl.

Instructions on use of Da Bird (from a Tan thread)

It's not enough to dangle the toy while watching TV. You have to be the bird! You've probably seen your cat perched in the window watching real birds. Now, let the cat follow a pattern of flight around the room long enough to get completely involved in it: with rapt attention, tensing muscles, and a little twitch of the tail. Talk to the cat in a light praising tone.
At some point, swoop the toy close enough for the cat to make a grab. When he catches you, play dead, but keep gentle tension on the string. When the cat relaxes, you make your escape! Fly around a bit, then allow yourself to be caught again. This whole routine can be repeated, of course, ad infinitum, until the cat is finished. But watch out for the "second wind!" This routine should truly tire the cat out.

Mark you need to get the cover for the snugglesafe, in the shape of a large cat - mine sit on it all the time whether the snugglesafe is in it or not - I thinik it's called Bruno.
