He was very staggery on his back legs last night, so I made an appointment at the Vet's this evening, Lady Vet had a good look at him, said that because I had told her I knew his kidney's were on their way out with the amount he was drinking, she wouldn't be happy giving him most painkillers and if she gave him Tramadol it would just make him very dopey. She gave him a thorough examination, said that he was basically skin and bones, when she weighed him he was a kilo and a half lighter than last time they had seen him. She asked if I was prepared to put him through tests for hyperthyroidism, and we had a frank discussion, he was very deaf, he had cataracts starting, his claws no longer retracted so he had difficulty on the hall and stair carpets and so I took the decision that it would be kinder to let my Baby Boy go.
Play hard on The Bridge with Jude and Cassie, Trouble. RIP.

So sorry, Paula. Even when you're half expecting it it's not any easier. It sounds as though you've put his quality of life first and made a brave decision

I keep bursting into tears, I know I did the right thing, but home will not be the same without him, he was born here, he was two days old when his Mum decided that she couldn't be bothered with the constant demands, no demand feeding for my Mogwai , she deposited her kittens on my lap, sitting on the arm of the sofa to make sure the kitten sitter was up to the job :evillaugh:, and then when they squeaked too much carried them all back upstairs to the drawer that the kids had pulled out of the dresser and she had given birth in. After that she would decide to deposit them on me every time she wanted a break (about 4 times a day), always looking on to make sure they were being looked after.
He was the first kitten to venture downstairs on his own, the first kitten to try to escape out of the front door, and we built a kitten enclosure downstairs in the front room, the first one to leap onto the curtains to shimmy back down and out of the enclosure. That was how he got his name, it was always "Trouble, stop doing that/Trouble get out of there/ Trouble get DOWN!!!", and it stuck. When he got older he was the most mis-named cat ever, he was a joy, even when he got an abscess on his face from another cat bite, the Vet said I'll just take him out the back to shave the fur and if you could hold him while I lance it", he purred so hard, the Vet came out with Trouble with a deflated face, saying"He just purred while I was shaving, so I thought I would try......", and he just let the Vet do what he had to sitting still and letting him get on with it. Every Vet Trouble met said that they wished they could all be like him.
Every rescue cat that I have taken in over the last almost 18 years, some have been old and lasted a few months, others a few years, Trouble just accepted them, unless they tried to become Topcat, in which case a few bops with velveted paws was enough along with his innate knowledge that HE was Topcat was enough.
That was my Baby Boy, and I am sorry if I am boring you all. I do believe that for the first time in my life I have actually written a eulogy for a cat.
Thank you all for your support, it means a lot to me that other people understand that he wasn't 'just a cat'.

It will take time to get over this Paula and he was obviously much loved from the start and would have wormed his way into many hearts.
Its great to have such lovely memories and this what you will hold on to for ever.
Maybe this thread should go into the Bridge area and I will move it when you are ready if you like. Just tell me when .

Paula, I know how much you were dreading this, and how much Trouble meant to you for so many years. I'm so sorry for your loss.
Pour it all out, dear dear Paula, let your heart scream and cry at the injustice, but remember you made the right choice at the right time, Trouble will not suffer pain or indignity, his struggles are over and he is thankful to you for the life of care and devotion.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts, Trouble is now sleeping his final sleep in the garden. I had asked to start late today as the weather was supposed to be dry to dig his grave, but BF went out in howling wind and heavy rain to do it yesterday, he asked me this morning if I wanted him to bury him, and I said yes because I couldn't bear the thought of putting him in the cold ground, albeit in a wooden box that BF made for me yesterday as well to stop the foxes. There is a white rose bush planted on top :Luv2:

My main dedicated garden forecat making sure I planted correctly before he lost all his weight, this summer just gone. If I had been weeding instead of planting he would have been in the sack making me put the weeds in around him

A handsome boy Paula :Luv2: :Luv2:
