Hope someone can either put my mind at rest or give me some advice. My little girl has not been herself for 36 hours now. Initially it started yesterday breakfast time, where she wasn't keen to eat, but had a little and promptly threw it up again. Followed by a bit more retching with just fluid.
She then spent the rest of the day on the sofa, which is fairly normal but come dinner time, she didn't get off the sofa and wasn't interested in food. I realised she hadn't moved so showed her her litter tray, which she went in and had a pee, then back to sofa. I managed to get a little cat milk into her last night.
This morning she was just the same, no interest in food ( tried dry and tinned) and just sleeping. When she does walk she seems to be careful not her usual stride. I phoned the vet and they agreed to see here then. Other than a high temperature the vet didn't find anything. I questioned constipation, but he didn't seem to think that was an issue. He has given her 2 injections, one an antibiotic the other to reduce the fever.
Since she has been home she brightened up a little and I seen her at the water bowl briefly ( not sure if she drank) and she went out in the cat run ( indoor cat but with enclosed run) and tried to eat some grass through the mesh. She is back to sleeping again and not touched food or water in a while. The vet wants to see her again on Friday.
Does anyone have any ideas how to get her to eat and drink? :scared: my other 3 cats are all fine.

Sorry to hear she is poorly. It can be tricky getting them eating again. I'd try some 'human' food like chicken or fish cooked up soft or a tempting pate type cat food or some Applaws. Sometimes warming it might help. Anything she will eat I'd give to get her going again.
If she seems to go downhill don't be afraid to call the vets. She does need to drink and eat a bit to get better.
Not much help sorry but hopefully once the meds kick in she will feel better.

Thanks for the reply. I had a rake around the house ( stuck at home in plaster and crutches) and found a tin of tuna in spring water. And a syringe. Scooted some watered down milk in her mouth and she ate 2 teaspoons of tuna then had a drink on her own soma little progress. These things always seem to happen when I'm incapacitated and partner is away working.
Looked through the advice posts and wish I hadn't. Worried now about FIP!

oh dear that is a shame that you are not well too. That sounds like progress though in that she ate a little bit :)
Sounds like an online order food delivery from Sainsbury or Asda might be the thing for you ;) Save you going out for your own bits too!
I'd offer her a spoonful every few hours and see how she goes.

Online shopping from asda has been a god send for the last 5 weeks. Only another 3 to go. I hate not being able to make her feel better. She is my wee princess ( hence called Xena). Fingers crossed she picks up soon. I almost miss her getting up to no good like stealing biscuits!

Poor love :( have you got medicines to give at home as well, or was it one of those long acting antibiotics like convenia?
I do hope she perks up overnight. If she doesn't, personally I wouldn't wait until Friday, I'd want to get her back to the vets tomorrow for fluids and further tests. When Geoffrey had similar recently my vet wanted to admit him and put him on a drip if he hadn't eaten and drunk by the following day. He had a blood panel run to look at organ function and also to check for pancreatitis which can be one of those things that can make them suddenly extremely poorly. Funnily enough I've always found the royal canin sensitive pouches are good for appetites, they seem to smell good (the well cat leaves her food to come and barge in for some) plus it's pretty bland for a poorly tummy and has a fairly high calorie content to keep them going when they're not eating much. Your vet might keep some in stock if you can't find any without having to resort to online.

I didn't get any medicines home, just gave her injections. I've managed to get 2 teaspoons of tuna into her and she drank a little but I keep topping her up with the syringe and some water. Thankfully my OH will be back tomorrow so if I need to take her anywhere he'll be around.
I tried tuna again but she wouldn't touch it. I did read your posts about Geoffery, glad he is on the mend. Might try wheatabix in the morning. We once had a kitten that ate that when he was sickly.

I would try liquidising some normal cat food with water and heat in the microwave for 10 seconds a fishy one works well as they lap it up - I have 2 here who drink their dinner 4 times a day and lick the jelly off the wet food that is down
I have more cats than most but if that's all you are managing to get down her then vets it is as they quickly become dehydrated which causes problems
I have 4 Bengals Miss Bibi my brown spotted and Miss Pyper my brown Marble rescue and her 2 kittens Minstrel and Quaver who are 12 weeks old

Hi liz.
I have 4 bengals myself. I'm gonna call the vet and see if he can see here again today. She vomited watery liquid twice over night but still refuses food. I've seen her drink once but think that was brought up. And I've not seen her use the litter tray in a while.

I'd insist she is seen today as it sounds like she will get dehydrated if she is not already. She may need some IV fluids now and when she is in lets hope they can do some tests and find out the problem and treat.

Been to vet again. Still can't find anything specific but says she is still ok hydration wise and temperature is down. Gave her something for the sickness now and I've not to try any food till morning before next visit. She may have food poisoning as they are terrible for bin raking, even though bin has a lock. And I think she may have eaten out of date tuna sandwich filler a couple of days before she took ill.

Quick up date on Xena. She's at vet again this morning and he's keeping her for some tests. Bloods and maybe an X-ray. Her temperature is down more but still can't find anything specific. Fingers crossed.

poor xena, hope they can find out the problem, does she go outside at all? I've got a bengal myself and know how nosey they are

No dawn. Her only outdoor access is an enclosed run. The only thing I could think off is she is terrible for breaking into the kitchen bin and I think she may have eaten some out of date tuna sandwich filler. I have a locking bin but they have discovered that if they pull it ove they can pop it open. I even have child locks on food cupboards as they steal muffins etc.

I had thought hair ball too as she does get them. Vet just called and nothing on X-ray but bloods showed he kidneys werent functioning properly and a raised bilirubin, which means liver issue but other liver enzymes are ok so he is keeping her over night and giving fluids which he hopes rectifys the kidneys and liver. Just want my wee girl to get better.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes. The vet has sent her home as she was not making a good patient. Kept pulling her drip out. Hasn't eaten but shown a little interest in food. She is so much more herself now, masses of cuddles and washing herself. Back on Monday for check up.

My little girl is home and she is so much better. Full of cuddles and purrs, very bright and alert. Almost back to normal. She even showed an interest in the food the others were eating, although didn't try it. We were give a special diet and after having her home a couple of hours managed to get her to eat about a tablespoons worth, the most she has eaten in nearly a week. I was so happy :wow:
This morning it's like normal service has resumed. Walked into the living room and she had an empty irn brew wrapper on her head! :naughty: she happily ate the rest of a sachet of food and used her tray so I'm extatic. We have tablets to give her too for the liver issues and back for a check on Monday but I think she's turned the corner now.

Don't know if any of you have experience with this or if I should start a new thread but Xena has to have a renal diet for now till she sees vet again next week for bloods. She has been eating it but not much of it and the vet wasn't happy with amounts. Tonight she wouldn't eat it but desperately wanted to eat what the others had. In the end I let her as I'd rather she eat something than nothing. I've ordered a different kind but have I done right just now?

With cats it is always a compromise between what you know is good for them and what they agree to eat! It is better that your little girl eats something rather than trying to insist that she eats the special diet :hug:

Thanks slusta, that was kind of my instinct. Especially with the liver being slightly off too. Will try mixing the food a bit see if she will take it then.

So pleased she is back home and eating something. Fingers crossed she just had a "mystery virus" and once she starts eating again her liver and renal activity will return to normal :hug: :Luv2:

Thank you everyone for your good wishes. They do scare you half to death when they are ill. My OH near fainted at the vet bill but I don't care if she is well and at home. Attached a pic of her snuggled up with me. Something else she didn't do when she was ill. :thanks:

Thanks. She is eating much better now but split into 4 meals, and usually goes for a sleep right after. She'll have to have normal food for breakfast as my order for renal food won't be here till later. Just hope her blood results are normal on Monday and we get the all clear.

So glad that she is on the mend - I have got 5 Benglies and your little one looks very like my Mellika - they are known for their sensitive tummies and I have had some real scares with mine x

My lot will eat anything to the point I have child locks on my cupboards as they steal bread, muffins, and cakes. They even open my slow cooker when it's on. I am now having to build a bin enclosure as although my bin has a lock they figured that knocking it over will open it and I think that may be how she got ill by eating off food from the bin. I wouldn't recommend a Bengal if you want an easy life lol love them to bits though.

Our two Benglies often lie lie yours is in the pic.
One of ours Phoebe she like to play a game of jumping up at the bathroom light swich pull cord, and turning the light on and off.. and on and off :rofl: and then gives you the :innocent: look
