Title: FIV CATS (what a surprise in this section))
Post by: Ela on May 17, 2007, 20:20:00 PM
It is so sad, today I have received 2 phone calls (well 2 about what I am to write, loads of others) asking if I can take in FIV cats 1 from Essex and 1 from somewhere near Swansea. With the best will in the world we cannot take them in from all parts of the country, although in the past we have taken a couple from Wigan and one or two from Sheffield. we only have space for up to 6 at a time. I have been able to give them advice and if they really cannot get help I have asked them to get back to me.

They were 2 strays. The one is Essex had been fed in a garden for a while along with a female who  became pregnant. The finder had her spayed and tested (neg) The male was then taken to be neutered as the vet suggested as he was a stray he be tested, sadly he proved FIV+. ( I suppose in reality in a few months time the female could test FIV+ if he were the father of the kittens). They already had 3 cats but have  decided to keep the female and the male is currently living in the summer house.

The lady who had the FIV cat near Swansea knows of a FIV rescue in Somerset so she is ringing them (so I don't know really why she contacted me who lives so much further away. I have given the man in Essex the name of a CP shelter in Kent that takes in FIV cats.

As previously advised if all else fails I asked that they get back to me. Although we only have the capacity to take in 6 at a time.

That would be lovely thank you. I don't know how people find out my number, but if I can pass on the advice supplied by purrs members that is a bonus.
