Title: RSPCA week - cats most unwanted pets
Post by: Cheesecat on April 23, 2007, 08:03:22 AM
Just found this article on the BBC News website:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6582467.stm

I know they get a bad rep but apparently its RSPCA week and they have revealed that cats are the most abandoned animal and figures have risen by 40%  :( how sad..

Just thought some of you might want to read it  :'(

i heard that on Radio 1 this morning - and the worrying part is that it sounds like they have only used the RSPCA stats - as we all know, they arent the only cat rescue, so that figure might actually be higher.
It is RSPCA week, they are in Tesco branches up and down the country collecting food and money.

I saw them at Tesco in oldham today so I bought them some senior biscuits and Mum and Dad who were also shopping bought them some dog food. The lady wasnt exactly enthusiastic when we put them in the trolley and certainly didnt want to talk to us but it was a bit noisy as they are remodelling the store.
love

Must be cos you are in Wales Gill, it is something that Tesco allow up and down the country. I spoke to the manager of the Oldham branch, and one of the Bury stores had 5 trolleys full of food, and the Oldham one got more than they have ever got

Well, my local branch said that if I couldn't get there while they were there, I could go into the branch and do it.

I am always in Tesco for one reason or another so if they are there I will donate some foodies  ;D hope they wont be as arrogant to the RSPCA as they were to me when I was collecting food ! lol

Do you think the reasons cats are the most abandoned animals because uneducated owners think that they are so independent they can survive on their own? Just what goes through these peoples head's?

Desley, I wonder if this link could be put on the website page you were developing, to deter owners from allowing their cat to have "just one litter".  I don't know how you could make the link permanent, as I guess the BBC site is always changing. Perhaps there is someway of downloading the vid. You'd need a techie to advise you on that.
