Title: Ear drops with steroids - very sad news
Post by: CuteCats on April 06, 2011, 13:28:59 PM
Can ear drops with steroids in them cause skin problems?  My Puss had these ear drops prescribed as well as a steroid injection, and he has a tear in in his skin just below the ear.  Probably been scratching too.  I've stopped using the ear drops for now as his ear seems to have improved.  I've used an homeopathic ointment on the skin tear for a couple of days to see if this helps.

I am sure that if a vet prescribed them then he would have warned you if there could be a problem.

If you are worried you need to ring your vet.

Thanks.  It's probably because he's scratched.  He seems to have a cold now, poor boy.  :(  At least he's already on antibiotics.

Poor boy and keep an eye on his cold and if he is having probs eating cos of bunged up nose , ask your vet for some sachets of bisolven, two will probably be more than enough. Its a very fine white powder and a little pinch goes on the food and it helps to break down the catargh

I would have thought the steroid jab would reduce itching. As Gill says it might be worth giving the vets a quick ring to see what the best course of action is

His skin problem looks a lot better after a couple of days with the ointment.  His cold is bothering him though, particularly with eating.  Going to try some liquid food from the vets for a few days.

I might try that as well, thanks.  He doesn't seem keen on solid food at the moment though but will drink.

I know it goes on wet food and its just a little pinch, dont know if it will go in water...............probably not.

Worth asking the vet about it cos its used for cats with cat flu. Two of mine had it before Christmas after one picked it up at the vets.

They wont eat well unless they can smell therir food so you need somthing high smelling to get them interested again.

Worth trying to get a bite of a pate type food on you finger and try and get them to lick it.............gourmet solitaire ocean fish is good.

My poor baby Brownie passed away today.  Only known about his FIV for a few weeks, and given him loads of love and cuddles.  And he's done that for me too.  I miss him so much.  :( :'(

:thanks:  Yes, the poor little boy had a cold at the end.  He had a large lump too, which the vet thought was cancer.  He passed away in my arms.
