Title: Sad news
Post by: Desley (booktigger) on April 20, 2007, 19:17:34 PM
Rang the rescue this eve to arrange going over to drop cheques off (thanks for those guys, they really will be put to good use), and we have had probs with the youngest litter of kittens we have in. One of them felt different last night, so the rescue lady was going to keep an eye on them, but went in this morning to find it dead - kitts are 3 weeks old. Mum seems to be struggling to feed them, so they are in the house being handreared, and she is in the cattery and we are trying to build her up - she is only about 8/9 months old herself, bless her. Fingers crossed with handrearing (and the dog helping out!!), the other 4 will all pull through, I shall take some pics tomorrow, this will then go on the story I had already written about letting cats have one litter.

Sorry for the loss des its never easy when they are that young.
Now the fosterer has the joy of the 3 hour feeds tell her good luck and maybe you could lend her something to read in the wee small hours I know I did a lot of reading when hand rearing 6 from 2 weeks old - Cougar and Puma are now nearly 3 and the other 4 live at Gleneagles in a lovely house and have a state of the art wendy house just in case it rains and they are to far from the cat flap!

I was devastated at this cos the little kitty  was one I wanted to bring home with me  :( this is the second time this has happened since I started fostering - fell in love with a kitten and its passed away, my first love was a gorgeous little tortie with a white circle round her little eye  :(

I hope the others stay strong and come visit Aunty Kelly for the holidays  :'(

Thanks guys - Liz, it is the main rescue lady, she has run the branch for nearly 11 years, so has had to handrear in the past.
I do hope you get to look after the others Kelly.

Sadly we have lost another 3 kittens this week - completely different litter, the rescue lady noticed one looking a bit lethargic, so they had a vet check, given antibiotics etc, but sadly still didn't make it. Fingers crossed this is the end of losses for a while, RIP little ones.
