We've adopted little Bonnie today. We picked her up at 11am and got back about half an hour ago. I didn't say before because wanted make sure things were finalised first.
She's adorable bless her, she's settled in the spare bedroom at the minute she's had a drink and some food and jumped up on the ottoman by the radiator. Will post some photos later today.
Here is the story:

How fantastic of you to give her a home - so many people would have rejected her because of the state she's in. I'm sure in a very short time she'll look completely different, and will reward you with lots of love!
-
Aww bless her and bless you Janey. She couldn't have wished for a better home. I know she'll thrive with your loving care.

Well Jane first of all I must say it's great to have another Bonnie on Purrs  :Luv2:
You are a life saver and I also thought she had a look of Byron in her face. She will be so proud of you looking down from the Bridge.
Looking forward to more and more photos.

-
What a poor little girl and so pleased you have given her a home for her retirment, well done you, Byron will be so proud of you

She is fine this morning, I took her some food and sat with her at 4am for half hour ('cos she woke when I was getting hubby off to work). She's drinking and eating well. She wouldn't eat the renal food but mixed with some of what Pepper has she's lapping it up. She's toothless and licks her food. She hasn't been to loo yet though :-: apart from a wee, she just wees where she's sat. Not sure why though, whether she's been used to going out to wee, or the stress or whether she's incontinent. I think she may be a little bit senile because after she'd weed she rested her forehead in it, she sleep very funny on all fours like she's praying (Will need to get some more puppy pads today). We're going to give her a bit of a clean up this aft, she had flea treatment yesterday so going to give her a gentle brush and trim her fur a bit more and give her a bit of a wipe over.

Yep another Bonnie :Luv:
Apparently she was called Ginger but Susie the fosterer called her Bonnie we didn't know if to keep one of the names or change it. I wasn't sure so have called her both but she doesn't really react to either so we think we'll stick with Bonnie because she is :Luv2:

I know we weren't sure what to do really. We were concerned about upsetting Pepper to be honest and I was wondering whether to wait then get 2 together next time. Anyhow there's been a few possibles but as normal I've been procrastinating :evillaugh: then when I saw Bonnie and after discussing with the rescue....it just went from there.
-
you are brilliant to have taken her on. the older ones tug at my heartstrings
-
Aw, she's a sweetheart! I bet we won't recognise her in a few weeks' time!
How has your other cat, Pepper, reacted to her?
-
Thanks :shy:
Pepper hasn't met her as yet, she's in the spare bedroom. She did actually follow me out last night peeped her head into the lounge looked at Pepper asleep on the sofa and turned back and went back into the bedroom. :Luv2:
She's just had a poo - in the hall :shify: so will try and see if I can sort that out but it won't matter I'll run round after her :innocent:
She's so tiny though and so sweet :Luv2:
I've taken some photos so will post them later.
-
She's adorable and I'm sure she will look like a different cat in the space of a very short time. Bless her dear little face. How old is she?
-
She's supposedly 15 but looks ever so old bless her.
-
I remember recently a discusion of a cat who lay like that and someone said it can be caused by reduced phosherous levels, probably Mark.
Wonder if she has had bloods done at the vets when she was there?
-
:-: Really?
It is very peculiar how she sits I've never seen that and was intending asking my vet about it I even wondered if her joints were hurting her so shouldn't lay on them. Regarding phospherous levels though aren't they meant to be kept low with CRF? Schui was CRF but hasn't been with us for nearly 2 years now so I'm a bit outdated with info apart from snippets I'm reading on here :shy:
With Schui the vet gave me the renal food to try and like Bonnie he was ok with them a few times then refused but my vet said just let him eat what he was wants because he needs food and we don't want muscle wastage and him miserable, so I did just let him eat whatever.
-

I think you mnean potassium levels Gill. The sitting or walking on the hocks instead of the paws is known as plantigrade posture. I did have a link to a phot but can't find find it and don't have time right now but I'm sure if you google it Janey you'll find something and can see whether its what Bonnie is doing.
Not all vets agree with low protein renal food anyway Janey so I think I would let her eat what she wants. :Luv2:

Hi Carol,
Yes potassium would make more sense, that could be it. I agree re the food, I haven't bothered giving her any today tbh and just said to Steve I probably won't try any more. At most she'd only eat a bit mixed with the other food. My vets certainly were pushy about it for Schui.
-
I am afraid the photo of her sitting all hunched up is a classic sign of a CRF cat feeling unwell (possibly too much stomach acid or dehydration). :(
Do you know what her creatinine/urea levels were at the last blood test Janey? I suspect her condition is, sadly, quite advanced.
Bless you for taking her on in her twilight days.
-
Before we adopted her I had a long chat to the fosterer as to whether she should really be homed or not and was told that the vet said it probably would be months rather than years so I did consider all those things.
I'll do all I can for her and ask my vet about the crouching to be on the safe side. Before we collected her yesterday Susie to her to the vet to check that she was ok and not dehydrated and the vet was pleased with her, I'm not expecting miracles but we will care for her the best we can for as long as needs
Btw, she had a little walkabout this afternoon and met Pepper :) she went to explore all the rooms and then jumped up on the sofa next to him, they sniffed noses, no hissing or claws then she jumped down and went back to the bedroom.

Aaaaaaaw that's lovely :)
-
Yes Jane youo must keep the name Bonnie cos she's gonna get even prettier the longer you have her. She will be more confident and less stressed and loved to bits. :Luv2:  :Luv2:
Mary and Bonnie xx
-
Sorry I got the wrong chemical :-[ :-[
-
Actually Gill you never necessarily got the wrong chemical as one of my cats has her phosphates levels regularly screened and is a CRF cat and is on a phosphate inhibitor to be mixed with her food.
-
Some photos I took yesterday.
-
Do hope she will be alright for a long time
Where did you get that Puppy Pad and what make is it please?
-
Thanks Gill me too.
She's bright this morning, eating and drinking fine. She went for a wander last night again and ate a bit of Pepper's food and some of his water but she just goes back to her room then. They've only met briefly so far but there's been no hissing or problems between them. I think that they'll be fine.
She's lovely, she looks so tatty at the minute but that's mainly because she so furless, she'll look a lot better once her fur eventually grows back.
The puppy pad you see there is one that Susie the fosterer gave us to pop in her cat bed on the way home (she didn't need a carrier), Susie said it was from the B & M stores.
We didn't get them from there though because we needed some things from P & H so got some from there yesterday. She's been weeing in her bed apparently but only done one here on the ottoman she's now getting up to do it and this morning did it on the puppy pad so that was fine. Once she's where I can monitor her through the day more though I'll try and sort this out the trouble is I believe she's gone outside all her life and probably spent most of her time out there she's had a hard life I think.
-
Poor little lady
-
bless her. how could anyone not fall for her
-
Whatever her health probems I think Bonnie is doing brilliantly. She had a long journey with new people but settled down straight away on arrival, she's met another cat and not been fazed, she's exploring, she's eating, she's drinking, and she's eliminating (albeit not in the right place :evillaugh:).
I think she's one tough cookie with a strong will to survive and given the wonderful home she now has I can see her being around for quite some time to come. :Luv2:
-
Aaw bless her little heart - I'm sure it won't be long before we are looking at before and after photos :Luv2:
Mary
-
She's bright and perky this morning and followed me in for some breakfast at 6 this morning.
She also had a walk round and jumped up next to me on the sofa last night, only stayed a minute but it's a start.
I noticed though that her wee is sometimes pink so I've booked her into the vets for this evening, she may have a bit of an infection/cystitis and that would also explain the peeing everywhere.
-
aww what a sweetie she is! I hope she hasnt got cystitis poor thing- its painfull enough for humans never mind a cat
-
Yes and it could be stress related cos she has been involved in so many things recently. If so abs injection will sort it out for her
-
The vet gave her a shot of Covenia to be on the safe side, and it would also help her eyes as she still has some infection there.
Her hydration levels were fine so that's good ;D
-
Lets hope the magix convenia sorts her out, it worked for Misa
-
;D thanks, fingers crossed xx
-
How's she been settling in Janey, any updates? :)
-
A bit up and down really, only to be expected though as she's been through so much
She had us awake during the night she has a very loud meow in fact she's meowing quite a bit so I had to get up and sit with her for half an hour at 3am and heat her snuggle pad up. She hasn't eaten much today at all and we were wondering if to take her to the vets again tomorrow but I gave her a bit of chicken late afternoon and she ate a bit of that and then some of the fish we had for tea and she ate quite a bit (for her) so that was good. It seems to me that she's been fed what her human has eaten because she's preferring that to cat food. She's up and about exploring a lot more not weeing as much and it's not pink so hopefully the cystitis is just about cleared up. She's been snuggled up on Steve's knee for the past 2 hours (I wouldn't let him move either :evillaugh:) so keeping fingers crossed. Just waiting to hear from my vets when they've had details from the other vets what bloods she's had done etc in case she needs any checking out such as thyroid, thanks for asking :thanks:
It's such a shame she's got into this state really, she's still a bit dirty and still has some flea dirt in her fur and matts but I'm just trying to clean her a bit each day as she's so tiny and don't want to upset her.
-
Aww bless her  She's so lucky to have found you
Hope the nightime yowling is short lived and she's just making her presence known :)
-
Maybe she gets scared at night in the dark?
I have a cat light on downstairs in utility room from going dark until about 0400 and it started off in honour of Kocka cos we always had a cat light for her but its just a way of life now............wonder if Bonnie would like one...........amazing how much light a 40w bulb gives out when everywhere else is dark.
Poor little lady will take time to settle and maybe she is a bit chilly and obviously loves cuddles, ;D
-
:'( :'( Very sad news, we've had to let Bonnie go. We've just got back from the vets, she was ok last night but got up this morning and she was very flat and listless so rushed her through to the main vets in town at 7.30 and the vet said she was passing so we had to pts. We knew that she probably wouldn't have long with us but did think she'd have a bit more time, heartbroken.
-

-
She was a darling and I'm very sorry. I think perhaps she was older than 15- I know she hadn't been well cared for, but she did look very, very old. Sad news but as everyone else has said, she had the best final days that she could possibly have had.
-

So sorry to hear this Janey :(
Janey what you did for Bonnie was very special - she would have known that too
Couldn't agree more, such a selfless thing to do knowing that heartache could be just around the corner
-
So sorry Janey
-
Thanks so much for all the kind words  We knew Bonnie was on borrowed time but hoped that she would have been with us a bit longer to be spoilt and cherished. Although our vets hadn’t yet received her details from the other vets she said she could tell the CRF was at the worse stage. She said there was nothing we could have done for her she would have just kept crashing and each time is a step further down and they wouldn’t be able to bring her back up to the previous level this time. She was so tiny bless her when we took her to the vets on Tuesday she only weighed 1.9kg, the vet said you can tell she’s always been tiny with her bones she was literally the size of a kitten. We’re having her cremated and will collect the ashes afterwards and bring them back home. It's heartbreaking but we’re so grateful that Susie and the rescue let her come to us, she fitted into our little family so well. She was one very special little girl, will miss her dearly such a terrible shame we didn’t have more time. :'(
-
Thats so sad Janey, I'm really sorry to hear your news about Bonnie
-
Oh Janey I 'm so sorry to hear this.  I was sure she was going to prove her prognosis wrong and have many months if not years with you.
You gave her love and made her feel special during her last days on earth. I know that's not at all what you had in mind for her and of little comfort to you right now but I'm sure it meant a lot to her.
-
Poor little love, such a shame she didn't get to spend longer with you.
-
Am so very very sorry Janey :'( :'( :'(
-
Oh i'm so sorry for your loss but how lovely that her last few days were loved and cherished ones with you - RIP little Bonnie xx
-
So sorry for your loss hun. She may have only been with you a short time but she had food, shelter, warmth and love and those things will have made made her last few days happy ones
RIP Bonnie xxxxx
-
sorry to hear about poor lovely Bonnie . I think although we 'knew' her for such a short space of time she made a huge impression on everyone. She was a special girl who was loved by many from afar
-
I'm so sad that Bonnie didn't get to spend more time with you Janey but I know the time she did have was filled with lots of love and I bet she enjoyed every minute.
You can now cherish every moment you spent together. It was very brave of you to take her on knowing she didn't have lots of time left, just wish it could have been more.
Hugs
RIP little Bonnie
