Title: Covcats - new fosterer given first job 5 3-week old kittens pics added - another one poorly!
Post by: Angiew on September 25, 2010, 21:29:53 PM: Lovely quiet day until 6-30 when got a call from vets now (!).
They had been give 5 tabby and white kittens between 3 and 4 weeks old. "found in a field".

Took them to the lovely petra who had 3 of my kittens a couple of years ago. She is a first time fosterer and no kitten experience but is game to give them a go. They all took a syringe of milk and 4 of them were interested in eating the gormet pate I offered.
One of them is very small and seems a bit dehydrated to me (though all passed as healthy by vet) and I think for him/her it will be touch and go. Not a good situation for a first time fosterer but can do no more. Petra has directions to try and feed the little one every hour or so.

who knows?
don't know who's lying but they are no way from a feral mum. They crave attention, took to the syringe well and are climbing up the kitten pen as if born to it.
can only think that mum went missing and after a few days the owners couldn't cope with it - especially as one is very poorly.

Post by: Angiew on September 29, 2010, 17:54:53 PM: Minx the poorly one picked up and was doing well but is now poorly again. He's been cleaning Tigger, the all tabby girl who has sickness and diarrhea today.

They all went to the vet today and the two poorly ones given fluids and now separated from their 3 litter mates.
Petra is coping well with the help of her family (lucky woman!) and I have apologized to her.

He had been at the vets all day being looked after and Petra says he seemed quite bright when they fetched him.

Until today that is, one has gone in and been kept in with a 'gassy belly'. He has taken a turn for the worse so is being Xrayed to see if he/she has a twisted gut.

He had a blood clot (infarction?) in his guts and they've managed to rub the intestines and get it cleaned but its caused some damage and his glands in his tum are up and there is also fluid around his liver (so the FIP word of course mentioned along with some other big vet words).

Fluids to be given for the moment and see how he does. No samples taken as too small but then as vet says it doesn't make much difference to how he and his litter mates are treated.

The little one died that night with Petra. It's been very upsetting as he was the strongest.
The other three are doing well.
