There's an ad for Whiskas about it's new simply grilled range, it features a silver tabby who's 'friend' from next door, Alfie, comes round. Only 'Alfie' is a patched tortie, as
she trots off out the door the woman says something like 'he'll be back for more' :evillaugh:
-
Nope, the ad has worked really very well, hasn't it? You've posted it up on here and now we've all heard of the product ;)
This is why I love marcomms :evillaugh:
-
Do you seriously think they did it on purpose? :-: I think only hardcore cat people know that torties are females, the ad was probably written by someone who's never even touched a cat :evillaugh:
Here's Alfie....

Yep i noticed! My mum says she must be alfreda :evillaugh:
-
Do you seriously think they did it on purpose?
Yes.
-

Yes.
I doubt they did it on purpose - although it's a basic error to us cat obsessives people, I'm not sure how big a proportion of the general public would realise.

Is it true that you can only get Ginger tom cats?
We had a ginger female, she was sold from a petshop over 10 years ago as a male, soon discovered she wasnt!!!
Named her Elsa, after the lioness in Born Free
Maybe he's a rogue male!!! ;)
-
Something like 75% of gingers are male. Some areas you will get more ginger females, as red is a sex linked gene, so you need the right combination of parents. We had quite a few one year.
I disliked the advert for feeding someone else's pet, the food didn't look that much different to normal whiskas, so doubt I will try it.
-
It's rare but I'm fairly certain I've read you can get the odd male torti....
I think Christines right. The company will get consultants in to see which ploy will get people discussing the advert; I'd think one of them will be reliably informed about cats seeing as it's cat food. ;)
And lo and behold - we're discussing the advert! :evillaugh:

You can, someone sent details of one through to CC a while back :)

Check out the beautiful ginger girl in my profile pic :Luv:

I'm not convinced it was done on purpose either, the type of people that would know about the male tortie thing are proper crazy cat people so they would be the only ones that would even notice. Yes, we're discussing it but if anything it lowers my opinion of Whiskas if they don't even know basic facts about cats!
-
they don't even know basic facts about cats!
They know that 8 out of 10 prefer junk food :evillaugh:

But we're cat people ;D and we will talk about any ad featuring a cat! I'm not convinced your average cat owner knows about male/female torties or would think about that when watching the ad.
I love the current ad for Go Cat but I wouldn't feed it in a million years!
I know I've mentioned it before, but my Magpie (RIP) was a whiskas taste cat - he was one of the 8 out of 10!
-
Would they be plugging it to attract the average cat owner? Maybe its done as a stunt to get people in the know to talk (and more obviously) think about the advert :sneaky:
I have tried this with my cats and they seem to like it :) and its only £2.50 a box in Tescos atm ;D
-
I'm SURE Christine is right!
Apart from that fact that people called Christine always are (yep - my real name ain't Wibblechick ;)) my father was a Director of JWT ad agency so I grew up surrounded by "ad. lore" They will have done some very caerful research to make those that spot the "mistake" feel superior ;) This leads on to remembering the brand and sampling it!
You can also be pretty sure that when kitty in an ad. heads for the advertised brand, the other bowls of kittydins he rejects are covered with sump oil or something similar!! :evillaugh:
-
Maybe it is part of a storyline and the next ad will have them discovering that Alfie isn't an Alfie after all!

You might be onto something there! I did notice that she he was quite small compared the the Lucy the cat so she he is still just a baby :shify:
-
Oh yeah cos they do do that :sneaky:
-
I hope the next installment doesn't involve Alfie having kittens

Aside from the ad, I bought some of this as it's only 2.50 a box and mine have gone completely mad for it! They don't usually like whiskers all that much so I started with one box but have gone back for more as it's such a good intro price and as I say, they are obsessed! For some reason, they are reallye njoying it

Wait until it is £5 a box and they are turning their noses up at regular Whiskas :evillaugh:
I bought a box last week but mine aren't impressed - I also noticed they are 85g pouches.

Can't find it anywhere else online yet, found this one while looking for it on youtube though - a much better advert :evillaugh:

 Not sure I want to try buying that, now!!
Mind you it would scare the :censored: out of my neighbours ..... :innocent: :shify: Quick! Please order me 2 dozen cases!! :naughty:
-
Well I actually wouldn't have known that they'd made an error :shy: I had heard that torties are female but it's something that I had forgotten (and will no doubt always forget).
Kind of like I didn't know gingers are mostly boys ... since there are a lot of ginger girlies on Purrs :evillaugh:
Learn something new everyday on purrs! :)

I seen this last night and Im sure the silver tabby was called Lilly? :shify:

The silver tabby was called Lucy :)
