Title: The Sir Alots
Post by: Teresa Pawcats on September 11, 2009, 12:42:20 PM
These little ones have popped up on various threads on forum so thought I had better introduce them properly.
They arrived at the Inn on Saturday night, very poorly with Cat Flu and a very nasty tummy parasite, we are waiting for results of faeces samples but have a good idea what the parasite is so are treating with appropriate medication; poor Sir Lovelot was affected the worst by the parasite and yesterday was passing more blood than poop, thankfully no blood yet today.
Sir Lancelot has a horrendous eye which is being treated 4 hourly day and night, Sir Noshalot was the tiniest and seems to be doing well, he really loves his grub. Thankfully all are lapping and swimming in food now. Took these pics after bathing and blow drying them earlier.

Beautiful boys  :Luv2: I have a feeling that they will only get more beautiful with your love and care Teresa  Fingers crossed the meds do the trick and sort their tummies out.

Do you have any 'before' pics?  ;)

Lovealot is very poorly still, we considered an out of hours vet at 10.30 last night but somehow he made it through the night and is slightly brighter this morning though had to feed him .

Claire here - acting as PA to Mrs Paws Inn today.  Been to vets this morning with the Sir Alots as we have been very worried about Lovealot, typical kitten behaviour and all three of them must have enjoyed the car ride as they were up and about playing like proper little kittens when we arrived.  I think Kay the vet thought Teresa and I were on something!! Anyway, to be cautious he has had a vit b injection and some subq fluids in his tum and the vet has told T to keep on with the care she is giving.  Other two were checked over and while still very ill they are doing ok.  These little ones have a long way to go, but a little bit of brightness today.  To add to the joy today, Teresa nearly snogged a poo.....yes you read that right!  Lovealot did the most amazing semi firm poo after his lunch today.....she was so thrilled that she wanted to kiss it and bring it in to show me as I was feeding Garcia, but because of isolation I missed out (hooray!!  ;)) You nearly had a photo of the poo on the forum, but it has now been destroyed!!

Yes....we are all mad at the Inn today - Teresa's lack of sleep is rubbing off on me!!!!

Not a great deal of change overnight apart from 2 big solid poops in litter tray  :yayyy: , this is the most terrible parasite for kittens to contend with without having to fight cat flu as well; Lovealot is still proving difficult to feed but we are getting enough into him, Lancelots eye is still awful but both he and Noshalot are eating well and doing well, in fact Noshalot is quite a fatty he often falls asleep licking an empty food bowl.

Just finished another round of feeding and getting food into Lovealot is becoming more difficult, will see how he is later this afternoon but somehow i think it will be another vet call out, i have had a gut feeling all week that he is not going to pull through, I am hoping its me being paranoid due to overtiredness.

This feed has been a little easier than last time when he was literally screaming at me and fighting me every step of the way, still syringe feeding him but no screams this time and managed to get enough into him; think part of the problem is me being so weak and allowing myself to get so heartbroken over him, his brothers are lapping huge amounts and gaining weight but Lovealot is still the same weight as he was a week ago 317 grams maybe I should stop comparing I dont know, but on Friday Lancelot had gained over 50grams and Noshalot had gained 95grams must admit it was only Lovealot who passed such copius amounts of blood. Is it any wonder that I am obsessed with poop, by the way finally all 3 are passing solid lumps. Its just so hard to keep going sometimes, but at least I am a little more hopefully than last feed.

Just finished another feed and Lovealot actually went for a swim in Lancelots dish, he even lapped a minute amount, finished feeding him with syringe and feel a tad more hopeful again, going to change my name to yoyo cos thats what I feel like. Noshalot ate his own huge meal then began to wash Lancelots dish before falling asleep in it, this kitten is obese.

Another difficult night with Lovealot, this morning he went to food bowl lapped for all of 10 seconds then decided no more so yet again I have forcibly syringe fed him, may take him to see vet later but in truth dont see what the vet can do to help him thats not being done already, I can feel all his little bones ; meanwhile Noshalot is the size of a balloon and Lancelot not far behind him. Will update later.

In desperation i opened a tin of high life salmon mousse and gently heated it, put my 3 dishes down and put Lovealot to the salmon mousse,he turned his nose up and went to Noshalots dish and began lapping the kitten food, for the first time in 3 days he has lapped enough that I havent had to syringe him please please lets hope he is turning a corner. Noshalot by the way wolfed the salmon mousse down, dread to think what will come out of other end. Decided no vet today carry on as normal and pray.

Just had Andy vet on phone, the parasite has now been confirmed and is worst thing possible (same as damaged Pedros bowels) he has made a 5pm appointment for all 3 and also Garcia to go in for injections; he does not think at this stage that Lovealot can recover but will make a decision when he examines him. The worst thing is I cant go to vet Rob will be taking them so I am going to be out of my mind wondering if I will ever see my little one again; this is just so cruel.

Please send all your prayers his way

Rob has just taken them all to Andy, I am at breaking point, little Lovealot has been through hell and today I started to feel hopeful because he lapped his food, now I feel that hope has gone all I can do is sit here and wait, Monica is missing last seen 11 last night so life is indeed bleak. I usually cope well with these things but right now I`m not coping at all.

For those who dont know I may as well come clean and own up that these kittens all came from the same hell hole as Pedro and many others, its over 20 miles from me and no one will touch the colony or help in any way. Rspca offered to PTS the sick kittens but refuse to touch the adults; CP including their HQ said its a job for RSPCA other smaller rescues have all refused to help, meanwhile I can only pick up the pieces which to date is 17 tiny kittens.
Title: Re: The Sir Alots
Post by: Dawn F on September 14, 2009, 16:56:58 PM
is it a feral colony or is the hellhole in question overseen by a person T?
Title: Re: The Sir Alots
Post by: Teresa Pawcats on September 14, 2009, 17:03:45 PM
Dawn its a terrible housing estate very dangerous and violent, one woman fed a cat and let it breed, its a feral colony in her back garden, last year I spoke to RSPCA inspector and she told me she would sort it, 2 months later I saw her and asked if it was sorted she told me all done, I only found out they hadnt even been there when neighbour who called me out to Kent city rollers this year told me they hadnt been in contact. Hercules and Hester came from there also Diablos lot, Sadly its a no go area and my health just cant cope with the trapping.
Currently there are now about 25 needing neutering.

All had the injection, Andy says as long as we keep up the current level of care Lovealot stands a chance but he has warned that this injection will strip their immune systems and that Lovealot could easily develope pneumonia . He is going to re inject them all on Friday. There is a very strong possibility that Lancelot is going to lose his eye, Andy thinks Flu is probably going to get worse as this medication takes effect on the parasite, but until the parasite is killed off they are not fighting the flu anyway, so we are also giving synulox drops even though it will be 2 antibiotics fighting each other.
They were given medication to help get rid of the parasite last week which wasnt ideal and probably caused Lovealot to stop eating, evidently Andy had to have confirmation of the parasite before he could risk this injection.
Afraid my brain is all over the place and cant remember everything at minute,
Lovealot lapped his meal after a little encouragement, Noshalot actually fell asleep in his food bowl before he had licked the bowl clean and Lancelot ate his and decided to help clean the other bowls, all are now happily sleeping to the tune of the tumble dryer finishing their laundry.

Thank you All for helping me through a very dark hour.

Lovely load of splot in litter tray this morning but all 3 have lapped their breakfast, Lovealot eating tiny bit more than yesterday so a huge relief. Going to bath them all after next feed.

Gill the name of bug is on Diablo thread will have to look it up as Andy looked up medical records on Pedro last week when I suspected this horrible parasite so all he told me was same as Pedro, I do know it is only found in sheep and calves not cats  The reason we got such a quick test result was the fact that Andy asked them to check for this particular parasite, we are still waiting for other results to rear their ugly heads, they wont be through before end of week.

Monica is home, I sat on Busters Bench at 7am having coffee break, the tears were rolling down my face and I whispered "Where are you Monica" as if by magic she appeared. For those who dont know, Monica and Wilma are 2 ferals who have been inseperable for years, we call them joined at hip, Monica fractured her pelvis in 4 places earlier this year and they had a 5 week seperation but once we released Monica they were back together.

Lovelot has just lapped a big huge meal  not going to risk a banana yet, I have just bathed and blow dried them and all are sleeping soundly and smelling beautifully. We are watching Noshalot because Andy thinks he may be a candidate for mega colon but if that happens we will cope.Lancelots eye still horrific but we will persevere.

Sorry been tied up today ; Lovealot is lapping with gusto and getting a little stronger each day,we have a weight gain of 16 grams since Monday not a lot but a gain so encouraging. Noshalot still loves his grub and Lancelot is just as greedy, still working hard to try to save his eye despite little hope.

This is the parasite we are dealing with, copied and pasted from Diablo thread
Coccidial Oocysts Isospora species specific to calves and sheep; it is not to be confused with Coccidia felis. The oocysts are picked up from contaminated farm ground which beggars belief because these kittens came from the middle of one of the worst housing estates in the North West.

All were bathed and blow dried this morning and looked and smelt beautiful, they are even spending odd minutes playing now, they are so gorgeous and now I`ve got to go and feed them and let them swim in the food so they will be muck spots again  Not sure if its wishful thinking but I am beginning to feel we may somehow save Lancelots eye yet.

To be honest feeding time although messy and hard work is really funny, Lancelot rushes through his and tries to make a dash for it because he knows the eye wash and cream is on its way, Noshalot has most of his body except back legs in his dish and eats with gusto before falling asleep in the dish, think he is still trying to suckle the food rather than biting it, Lovealot
spreadeagles his whole body in his food bowl and slides about in circular motion grabbing the food as it hits his paws, somehow he reminds me of an old washer woman, when he has finished he sits himself up in the bowl waiting to protest when the baby wipes come out.
Recheck at vets in morning and another injection.

Andy pleased wthl progress but they still have a long way to go; Lancelots eye although improved has a huge ulcer on it so its still doubtful that we will save it,but will do our best.
All had the injection and other tests results we were waiting on have come back negative thankfully. Andy is hopefully that another week on antibiotics will do the trick and hopefully this will be the last Noridine injection.
Just fed them all exhausted after playing at vets and all fell asleep in food, thought you`d enjoy these pic

It was bathtime for the Siralots today and I was roped in to help with the drying!  We thought you might like to see some picture of the process from getting mucky while eating to bathing and then all dry and fluffy!

These three have also been weighed today and I am happy to report they have all gained including Lovealot who you will know was struggling to eat earlier in the week.

Lovealot - 372gms (from 317 last saturday, but dropped to 306 on monday)
Noshalot - 528gms
Lancelot - 588gms

Lancelot's eye is looking better but still a long way to go as there is a big ulcer inside his eye.

Enjoy the photos.

Dont worry about me, in truth I think you have to be a bit mad to do rescue, you certainly need to laugh at things, will be honest its the little things like good poop after going through so much hell that make me smile the most .

Had a scare with Lancelot last night he refused food but was playful so I went to bed and left a dish in the pen, 5am and munching going on in the dark, dont know who ate it but feed them all at 6am and 3 clean bowls so panic over again.
Pleased everyone liked the kitty pics.
Title: Re: The Sir Alots
Post by: Teresa Pawcats on September 21, 2009, 19:11:43 PM
Just had the funniest feeding time yet, Lancelot as usual finished his food first and decided to make a run for it, he chased Minimopsical all round the kitchen and even tried to imitate her when she tumbled over, he has the most unusual prrfft followed by a little woof sound and sings non stop when running round, poor Minimopsical lay on her bed and began swooshing her tail like a mother cat does and Lancelot started to "kill" it, Minimopsical took her paw and gently put it to Lancelots head and said enough, considering her enormous disability she is remarkably gentle with her charges, Noshalot was second to finish and decided to follow Lancelot around but didnt have the courage to visit Minimopsical close up, Lovealot as usual ate all his food before falling asleep while trying to eat the dish and that was after he had polished the other twos left overs. Lots of heartache along the way but moments like these are so precious.
So Minimopsicals school of kitten training is open again, such ashame that Garcia will miss out.

Gill, Garcia will miss out on Minimopsicals teaching because of my isolation rules. Just had a repeat feeding time perfomance and sitting here waiting for them to poop so I can leave them clean for night, they now last from 10pm till 5am if I leave a dish in Pen so life easier.

Parasite reared it ugly head again last night, this can evidentally happen anytime within a 3 week period from last injection so hopefully just a blip. All 3 been to see Andy and had another injection this morning, at the moment its just Noshalot but all have been jabbed as a precaution. Lancelots eye is still very bad but Andy is pleased with progress being made,he says ulcer is healing from underneath and showing signs of shrinkage, the main worry is dead tissue inside upper eyelid which neither of us can see being, he says it will come away eventually but could leave a hole in the eye, thats worst case scenario so hopefully it will just come away without causing damage. All chests now clear and Noshalot and Lovealot off the synulox so that is good news.

Noshalot has started eating again which is a huge relief, just need to see what comes out of his rear end, hopefully injection is kicking in and killing the little parasites, Lancelot and Lovealot still solid poop; the trouble is the diarhoea comes when the parasite eggs are being shed and it just takes one to tread in it wash their paws and reinfection; when Pedro went through this we were able to split him away from his siblings, its just not possible to split these 3.

All back at vets for more injections this morning and have to go for more on Monday, Noshalot not eating much, Lovealot got blood in urine and faeces which vet says is down to parasite, she says they look wonderful compared to when she last saw them a week ago ( they see Andy weekdays) Kay weekend, got to keep plodding on, they have had some anti inflamatories as well as the Noridine injection so hopefully this will stop the blood. They are certainly feeling a tad better, not crying in pain now so jabs have kicked in, Noshalot has eaten a reasonable sized meal though not as much as normal, other 2 eating ok for now. Had to laugh at Kay vet this morning, she said I was exhausted and offered to hospitalise them over weekend to give me a rest, I asked her if she could maintain their current level of care she said of course we can we are vets after all, then she asked me about the care required and apologised and said we couldnt possibly keep that up, bless her she meant well.
Just praying we can wipe this awful parasite out.

Vets can never give the care that we at home can give, except where equipment they have is necessary.

I do hope para-site is leaving

Just back from vets and dont know what to say other than we need a miracle, Andy debated PTS but said that as I had managed to somehow keep his fluid levels he could either PTS or inject him with a strong drug which is unlicenced and that he has never used on a kitten or small animal before, but if it works he may stand a chance of holding something down, I chose for him to have the injection and at least try another night. An appointment has been made for 8.50 in the morning and if he is still unable to hold food down it is PTS, the parasite has caused inflamed bowels and all the medication has caused a build up of toxins. I only found out today that the medication does not kill this wretched parasite it merely suppresses it so that hopefully the animal can gain strength and get big enough to fight it, so none of them have had the norodine.Kay other vet popped in to see them and couldnt believe the difference in Noshalot and asked me how I keep going on this rollercoaster, I couldnt answer.
I really dont think this injection is going to save Noshalot but I have to try, he`s so worth it and I know I wont be able to cope if I lose him.

Sir Noshalot began fitting just after 7.30 last night, he died in my arms cuddled up close at 8.25 just 50 yards from the vet; the very medication we had been giving him to save his life had caused a build up of toxins in his tiny body, without those meds he would have died anyway, I know we did everything we could to try to save him, I know his short life was hampered by illness but he had happy playful times and those are what I need to remember in order to give his brothers the care they need to get through this;there is to be no more medication for Lancelot and Lovealot somehow we need to build them up big and strong to allow their own bodies to fight this parasite. I only found out yesterday that the medication doesnt kill the parasite merely suppresses it and every oocysts ingested breaks in to 8 that find an intestinal cell each to multiply causing further damage. I did not think I would cope with losing my boy but I know now that I have to be stronger than ever for his brothers who have both eaten a hearty breakfast and are currently curled up together asleep.

I thank everyone for kind words and pm`s and will reply when I can.

I dont do Rainbow Bridge cant handle it but I have posted 2 pics of Noshalot that I love and show his amazing character. God needed you more than I did little man.

As for the people who caused this problem I cannot allow anger into my heart, they will face their day of judgement.

Lancelot gave me one heck of a scare when he refused his meal earlier, he decided that running round the kitchen playing football was more fun otherwise I would have been out of my mind. Both kittens are constipated so after Lovealot had eaten all his and had a play I returned both to the Pen leaving Lancelot without food, felt cruel and worried since but last meal opened the pen and both boys flew out and cleaned their plates, guess they want to keep me on my toes.

The future is not looking bright for these 2, just back from vet yet again,Lancelot is going down same route as his Noshalot and throwing up everything I syringe into him, Lovealots appetite has also decreased,Andy said the muscles in their tummies are going into tight spasms, injections given which may help for 8 hours and he has given me 2 to give later on,if muscles still go rock solid we will lose them. Andy says I will know within next 12 hours, no matter what we do nothing seems to work and I feel so useless and to be honest I think vet is all out of ideas and clutching at straws.

It would be wonderful to have an unexpected upturn with both of them but Pedro, Minimopsical, Garcia, JO Ripley and all the others have you to thank for their little lives and you also need some me time to get over all the sleepless time you have had with all of the sick kitties.

Only you and your heart knows what you want to do and what ever it is, take some time to consider carefully what is right for you

Decided to shove the tears in a bottle and up the care, Lancelot brings the food up on 3 hourly feeds and Lovealot is difficult to get enough into, so trying to syringe small amounts every hour in the hope it will stay down and do some good; just given them both a gentle bath and blow dry cos I know when I feel rough it makes me feel better, so they are clean, comfortable, sleeping and for now have kept the last 2 tiny syringe feeds down.

Thank you all for being so kind, in truth when you are on your own in rescue and high dependancy kittens come in no matter how hard you try you cannot make "ME" time, I have had non stop high dependancy ones since May when Kent city roller arrived 5 of them needed bottle feeding and nursing back to health, think I had just about got them lapping when Ripley turned up and then of course Hercules and Hester 2 days before DM adopted Ripley so intensive care continued until they recovered and then that fateful day off and Garcia arrived followed a week later by Babe and then of course the Siralots and Pud, this is on top of all the cats in pens who I havent got time to photograph for webpage which is so out of date; I am not trying to moan just explain how exhausting it all is and why my emotions keep getting loose, I usually shove everything bad in an imaginary bottle and put the lid on tight somehow my lid has worked loose.

As long as there is some hope I will keep fighting for my boys and if its a 24hour a day job I will get through it; I just really need for nothing new to come in as we have so many cats/kittens here .

Thanks Wibble and DM, whilst you are always welcome to visit there is no way I will take a day off before my charges are settled, I owe it to them.
Have now managed to get 4 tiny meals into Lovealot and Lancelot without it coming back up but am being very cautious; all ideas medications have failed so far and so I am clean out of new things to try, please Lord let these tiny meals give them the strength they need.

12 hours and food kept down, Lovealot is very down and syringing him is difficult but I think Lancelot is slightly brighter, taking each hour at a time time and every tiny meal I get into them has to be helping.

Lovealot started vomitting at 6am and is very down but I keep telling myself that is where Lancelot was yesterday, Lancelot is still down but brighter and insisted on having a bigger meal, they are currently curled up together fast asleep to the tune of tumble dryer and washing maching which has been on most of night, put nice clean bed in after last feed,it lasted 5 minutes before Lovealot sicked on it.
I`m tired but have fight in me still.

Had daily outiing to vets, Lovealot has had injection to help stop the sickness, Andy pleased with Lancelot and actually paid me the most wonderful compliment on my nursing skills, I thanked him and told him if they didnt improve quickly he would need to put the hosepipe over me because I am filthy  Got to wait till 11.30 to allow injection to kick in before feeding so I am going to relax in a nice hot bath and see if it makes me feel less like a tramp.
I keep telling myself I am in fighting form, sorry for rambling but if it helps me keep up strength for my boys I know you will forgive me.

Good news and Bad.

Lancelot has just lapped a meal and cleaned the dish.

Bad news is Lovelot is throwing up everything I try to get inside him, made an appointment at vets for 5.50pm tonight, I dont see anything we can do to help him unless Andy produces a miracle.

My brave little Sir Lovealot was PTS just after 6 this evening,he fought long and hard but was just too good for this world.

Please pray for Lancelot the only survivor who is missing his brother dreadfully and still has his own battle to fight, Andy said if I can keep him alive it will be another month before we can relax as this thing can strike again.and again.

Can only echo what Rosella and Gill have said.

I've just sat in bed and had a such a long, hard cry. Far, far too many of our babes have left us in the last few months and I feel as heartbroken for you all as when I lost Nina.

I'd say I don't know how you do it T, but then I look at my 2 little lads, fast asleep but still purring, happy and healthy and thank god that you do.

RIP Lovalot, and please keep fighting Lancelot, we need you to grow up big and strong

Lancelot has lapped all his food today,he has even enjoyed a game of football on kitchen floor; Garcia kindly donated Pinkymoo so he had a friend to cuddle up with ( after it had been washed) so he isnt lonely now, I am pleased with his progress but have been here before and so I can only take each day at a time and try to salvage something from the dreadful experiences to date. I do know he is constipated yet again so hopefully something will pass soon.
I cant begin to tell you just how precious these boys were to me; Lancelot even has a tabby beauty spot its in the exact same spot as our late Busters was, maybe a good sign I dont know, I just know I have to stay strong and fight, the luxury of grieving is a million miles away.

Lancelot has been to vet this morning as refusal of food continued; he has had an enema and I have to give him another later, Andy does not think this is the parasite striking again more a case of an underdeveloped colon as a result of the parasite, the good thing is he cannot feel a mega colon like Pedro had so yet again I am praying for poop, he said we darent even give him katalax because of risk of intersusseption.

Lancelot and his paranoid old boot thank you so much for your support  I will post if poop appears or food is eaten.

Ginge 66 I was not referring to you, you were kind enough to contact me privately last week.  :hug:The person I refer to actualy posted on her longish thread right at end of it.

Mega colon can occur at any time of life as a result of severe constipation, strange thing is Andy reminded me just how well Pedro is now, guess hes had enough of me being miserable too, poor man said how pleased he was with Lancelots eye again this morning and immediately explained why he had said it last week when I bit his head off saying an eye was no good to a dead kitten,he explained that it wouldnt improve on a dying kitten.

Andy is right, who ever thought in some of the dark times Pedro would be where he is now - interesting about the eye, I hadn't thought about it but yes that makes perfect sense

Still no poop but he has eaten a little so hopefully something has moved downward a bit; will give him another couple of hours and if nothing he will be severely punished with another enema, poor little mite is so small it has to be drawn into a syringe to be inserted into his little botty.
I really think Purrs needs an official poop dance to relieve such discomfort so Dawn please feel free to dance away and post a video.

Lancelot has just eaten a hearty supper but we have a serious case of missing poop, I have trawled the litter tray searching for buried treasure, nothing not even a peanut sized one, the question is where is this 6 inch lump that Andy says needs to come out and more to the point with what hes eaten tonight it should be 9 even 10 inches now.
This must be affecting me badly I dozed off earlier and dreamt I went to the loo and passed 3 kittens, guess I need locking up.

Hi Everyone

Just to let you know that Lancelot is being a cheeky little kitten today.  He has eaten all his food, tried to steal Minimopsicals and been a little rat while his Auntie Claire tried to cream his eye and give him a brush!!

He has had a good play with the ball and a big cuddle and he is now fast asleep on his bed.

He sends headbutts to you all.  We are still cautious with him but he is going from strength to strength thanks to all Teresa's hard work.

I will keep you updated on his progress.  Keep on with the positive vibes for this little man.

Cxx

Hi all, just an update on Lancelot...

Yesterday Lancelot made his escape to a new loving home, he is doing very well now and a cheeky little monkey at that. He is one who i personally will definatly miss as he has been a little star since his arrival at Paws inn. i didnt get to say goodbye or get any updated pics before he went as i was out at the hospital when he went but thought i would let you know he is well and with his new family...

Great news.  Teresa will be pleased  :)

I`m thrilled for Lancelot who incidentally is keeping his name but in truth I broke down and cried for hours when I found out that he had gone, just as I did with Hercules, guess some of them leave battle scars on your heart.

I was wondering how you would react Teresa cos after you have put in so much work and for him to leave while you were away must have been heartbreaking
