This is Rupert the Great Dane ;D
He belongs to John's parents, and we popped up to see them yesterday! They've always had Dane's and J grew up with them was so fully prepared :evillaugh:
He's quite an old boy in Dane terms as he's 9 :)
I've never seen such a huge dog, but he's soppy as anything, but I don't think I could cope with all that drool on a regular basis  He kept drooling over me and had a thing about trying to lick my neck :tired:
Here's some piccies :Luv:

Oh I do like great danes - and they don't all drool (well, not much, though the back seat of the car can get rather damp). Nine is a very good age for a Dane - and he still looks remarkably fit and healthy! They have done a great job with him indeed.

:Luv: he's lovely Clare! and the ones I've met have always seemed very gentle.
I remember when we adopted our very first cat Penny, she was only a kitten and her siblings had all found homes so we chose her but she had latched on to the fosterer's great dane, bless her and he was a big softy too but she was so tiny at the side of him.

LOVE Great Danes - he's gorgeous! :Luv:
-
Oh wow! He's Poots doggie equivalent! :evillaugh: He's lovely! :Luv2:

He's fab! ;D

Maybe it is Harlequin Danes! We have a ginormous one that walks down our main road. He is mega skinny though, he has just been rescued at 2 years. 9 years is so good for a Dane, most of the Danes that I have met are lucky to reach 7. They must be doing summatt right. ;D

Thanks everyone, I'll pass on all your lovely comments, J's Mum will burst with pride! Her dogs mean so much to her, and having lost one of their oldies last year, they absolutely dote on Rupes :Luv2:
Apparently Harlequins do have a reputation for being a bit nuts, and for being pretty big too, so I'm told :)

Gorgeous dog but drooly mouths make me

Gorgeous dog but drooly mouths make me
Me too :evillaugh: my clothes went straight in the wash when I got home as my arm got well and truly slobbered on with foamy drooly stuff
-
There were a couple in the vets last week and he was wiping his dog's mouth with a tissue. It set my teeth on edge
-
Ha they had to keep doing that to Rupes as well, especially when we were munching tea and cake and he wasn't allowed any
-
Poor Rupes :'(
Reminds of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLB9QUgLl98 - poor doggy :'( (nothing terrible)
-
Lol, only difference was that Rupes had already had a bit of everyones cake already and was trying to be a piggy :shify: :evillaugh:

Heya everyone, wanted to note Rupert's passing yesterday :'(
He reached a magnificent 10 and a half, but last night he passed away peacefully just before 9pm :(
His breathing had been laboured for a few days, and the vets said it was his heart giving up, as so often happens with these big guys.
RIP Rupes you big old softy, go find Alex up on the Bridge xxx

Remember Our Love
I was chosen that day
I'm learning to fly
the world took me away,
but please don't you cry
And I chose you today
to try and be strong
so please don't you cry
and don't say that I'm gone
When you're feeling alone
just remember our love,
I'm up near the stars
looking down from above.
Remember our love
In a moment you'll see
that I'm still here beside you
when you're thinking of me.
