Title: Worried about a cat hanging around the station
Post by: Mark on June 29, 2009, 22:48:43 PM
Last week when I went to pick OH up around 9.3-pm, there was a cat that came over the road and wanted to cross the railway bridge but some chav scum chased it and it ran onto the platform. Tonight when I went to pick him up at 10pm, the cat was rolling around on its back after a fuss from a woman waiting for a train. I sat on the low wall outside the station and it cam to see me. It is so affectionate. It ended up curling up on my lap  :Luv2: - obviously I had to leave it. I am worried as there are dodgy people around and it is only a matter of time. I took a crappy photo on my phone which I will upload in the morning. It is a ginger persian.

Suggest you put a collar (maybe a paper collar) round neck and write "is this your cat, pls phone...eee! Any cat nr a railway line isnt a very good place to be either... If its belongs to someone then maybe advise keep it in at night... I wonder if the cat is chipped..? Probably does belong to someone who may not realise its travelling so far away (or maybe not).. Is the cat in good condition?

Difficult one i think that one

It certainly doesn't sound safe for it to be around there and not just from the trains either !!!- poor babe - haven''t you got somewhere you can keep it and then see if its chipped ?
Its better off at your place ,than some evil scum bag getting hold of it and doing god knows what to it - hope its safe and okay right now. :(

I would have a word with the station staff, as they might know where this cat comes from

station staff

What are they?

I can't really take the cat as I could get into trouble if it is owned. I will make a paper collar as Sharon suggested and keep it in the car. I pick OH up every night so should see it soon.

You could take the cat and say you found it in your garden  :shify:

I would ask the station staff and also put a paper collar on, are there houses nearby?  chances are this is a friendly cat who gets lots of fuss at the station and that's why it goes there - very worrying though.  There is a cat by my sisters and it's always in the local hairdressers and at the bus stop rolling on it's back for fuss., the owners are always out looking for it in the car.  She said she hasn't seen it recently - I think (hope) they are keeping it safe  :scared:

As I said (in not so many words) in an earlier post, there are no station staff so I will put a paper collar in the car ready for the next time I see it. Sometimes  teenagers hang around the station. Most are fine but it only takes one.

There are houses nearby but not sure what side of the railway bridge it lives. It must be owned as apart from a matt under it's chin, its fur is fine.

Not sure who I would tell as CP have a list and who knows what the other lot would do  :scared:

yep I saw but thought you were joking - is it just a stop and not a place you buy tickets then?

The ticket office is open in the morning but people have to use a machine at other times. Occasionally there is a guard in the evening but absolutely useless. Once or twice, the local catholic church had some people there but that didn't last. OH was being verbally attacked and threatened late one Friday night. He called out to the guard "Aren't you going to help me and call the police or something?" and he said "I've got a home to go to and don't want to be held up"  :tired:

A lot of the Southeastern Line stations are like that. Chatham is fine, but Rochester there are really only staff downstairs. You occasionally spot one on the platforms but they see you looking at them and suddenly find something really important to do a long way from where you are ...

there are at least 4 staff at my local station, but that is a long long way away from the SouthEast

then how about carrying a small amount of dry cat food with you, so you can get an idea about how hungry he seems - some bog standard variety which is unlikely to be better than anything he gets regularly

The only problem is, if I take food to the station, it will give the cat even more reason to visit there? - I think the paper collar is the first step. I know I may have to do it a few times. The cat is so friendly I shouldn't have a problem getting it on  :Luv2:

What really worries me is the idea that it will try to befriend a chav who will kick it or worse  :'( - There was something in our local paper a few years ago where a woman who's cat never left her front garden was found dead and minus its tail.
We can't imagine how people could do these things but they do  >:(

It's quite a while since I've been on a train - at a station but I can imagine tickets machines now in most places.  You may need a couple of collars, I did for Matty but got a reply second time  :wow: which was great.  I think the first time it may have come off- it was drizzling.  The second time I actually wrapped some sellotape around the part with my details, hope you have luck sorting this Mark he looks lovely and I'd be worried too.
