Title: Poor poor Noah - graphic pics: BUT HAPPY ENDING!
Post by: wharfevalley catsprotection on February 15, 2009, 10:07:13 AM
Well this little scrap is Noah, found on an estate (one we're very familiar with), the R**** 'couldn't help' and so we were called in.... we're collecting evidence for a case as we think there are other cats in the area suffering, but it's so hard to prove...

This is Noah when he first came in... there is some white fur under there somewhere!

Cleaned up a bit...

His burst paws... he'll always need an indoor home becuase of illness which causes his paw pads to burst - he's been out in the cold for God knows how long - can you imagine the pain he's been in?

He's showing himself to be a little sweetie who we thought would have to be PTS as we thought he was feral, but once he had some tuna and pilchards he was purring away!!!

Can his paws be helped?  Ive never seen or heard of anything like that before.   :'(  Please let us know how he gets on......

It's a very rare illness, but it is treatable (for the life of me the name escapes me!) We have had a cat with the same illness a little while ago but it wasn't nearly so advanced as Noah's case.

They will heal given time and lots of tlc and he'll always have to have a nice, softy carpetted home, but if he's like the other cat he should make a full recovery. His fur will hopefully go back to white given time. We're in it for the long haul with this one, but actually he'll probably be re-homed quite quickly as we get so many indoor homes and also people like me who's heartstrings get pulled x

That poor, poor baby, thank god he was found when he was, and he will now get all the love and treatment he needs. I do hope he isn't waiting too long for a home, and that he recovers quickly.

Its strange, when I was fostering I managed not to get too atached to any of my little "guests".  That was 20 years ago .... Now I seem to be much less detached.  And Im only seeing pictures and reading the cats stories.....

We have our two rescued "oldies" Chloe and Mr T and I suppose if desperate we could take in more but Im sure Chloe and Mr T would prefer us not to.  They dont seem very keen on the one or two visitors we have had.

I do wish Noah all the love he deserves and hope his forever-home isnt too long in coming :) :Luv2:

JUst spoken to someone who's dealt with Noah - It's actually a virus that causes this problem and someone on the estate has been trying to catch his, but he was in so much pain and terrified. The R**** had been called 3 times and hadn't done anything (and would have PTS anyway).

He had to be bathed under anasthetic but as soon as we put him into a pen with a warm bed and food he just could not stop purring and hasn't stopped since! He'll be in the vets for another 2 weeks whilst we get the steroids started and he may have to have an operation to remove some excess skin. They'll always be tender and may leave sopts of blood occasionally, but it's totally manageable.

His FeLV and FIV came back negative and so it looks like this is his only issue... we'll just wait and see!

Poor baby. It is so heartbreaking that cats can suffer like this and "people" don't seem to have a scrap of humanity in them to help  :( - I'm sure he will be right in no time but my heart is breaking for what he and others like him have to suffer  :'(

Is it this? - plasma cell pododermatitis? - http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_plasma_cell_pododermatitis.html

On the bright side is they say cats are rarely in pain - although with raw wounds it must hurt?  :'(

I hate the RSPCA - they are useless and collect money under false pretences that should be going to charities that actually help animals!  >:(

Please keep us updated - he looks a sweetie!

We have a feral called Rogue with this he has always limped and we had a biopsy done last year as we thought it was cancer as did our vets but it came back as plasmacytic pododermatitis

This is treatable with steroids, unusally Rogue currently only has this in one pad and it cleared its seld up - if comes back periodically always accompanied by a limp

Rogue is no where near as bad as Noah but the condition is treatable with steroids and creams.  Rogus is still indoor/outdoor but whn he starts limping we ground him for a week

I'm sure now is good care Noah will come on in leaps and bounds he is a cutie for sure

Thank goodness you have him now, it doesnt surprise me with the RSPCA...they are a waste of space sometimes !!

So with medication will his paws heal and not get like that again ?

I am horrified at Noah's suffering and that the RSPCA allowed it to happem, I thought they were to relieve the suffering of animails not contirbute to it!  :censored:

I am afraid that if that was me, it would be graphic pictures and a stern letter of complaint to the top bod, If no joy there, then the local press, The sooner the public wake up to the fact that the RSPCA are a waste of space the better.

I would love to hear thier excuses on this one! Grrr.

But at least he is safe now and knows some warmth and comfort.

I totally agree with this from dabs - pepole need to know more about the RSPCA - They are total  :censored: :censored: :censored: with their policies -yet they are always sending out letters asking for donations - well, i rather give my donation to better cat charities that actually help !

Yes well we're putting together an evidence file and writing to them and to our HQ as well to show them what we're really up against (sometimes we read the Cat magazine which CP supporters get and it paints a more happy picture than what we're actually facing).

I think the RSPCA's excuse was that Noah was so timid that they said to contact them when the lady had caught him. We went staight round with our experienced trapper and got him straight away... we origionally thought that we would have to PTS, but our wonderful vets knew deep down that he'd turn it around and they were right! We take all our trapping cases there and they really are amazing!

I'll keep you all updated on his progress!

The poor poor baby ... I am so happy that you have caught him and he is getting, treatment, love and the chance of a forever home when he is better.

In a way I'm pleased the R**** didn't managed to catch him as we all know how they would have treated him ...  they would have justified it by saying "it was the kindest thing to do for the cat!" He probably wouldn't have even made it to the vet just be "dealt with" in the back of their van  >:(

God bless you and your team for helping this special little boy and I'm sending lots and lots of love and get well son vibes for Noah

You mean to say he could actually walk with feet that bad?  :'( Are they open wounds or overgrown callases?

The poor, poor mite.  :( But I am sure they'll be a race to adopt him.  :Luv:

Nothing surprises me about the RSPCA. They still haven't visited the suffering cat I reported 2 weeks ago. Somebody, somewhere in the media must surely pick up on all this failure of duty and expose them.  :scared:

Hello!
Apologies, but it's quite difficult to get more pics whilst he's at the vets as the vet nurses need to do it which takes time out of their day!

He's responding really well to treatment and is just enjoying good food and comfort. Of course, he can get grumpy with being pulled around and prodded, but he's generally a sweet boy who just wants to be loved!

Soo upsetting  :'( poor babe.  Thank god there are angels in this world like you hun that will help and love him unlike the  :censored: RSPCA. How can they call themselves an animal caring association when they let babes like Noah be in pain?    How can any "owner" of a pet let any pet suffer like that. :'(

Oh how i wish all this cruelty would end.

Sending all my love and prayers that he makes a full recovery and has a wonderful loving home he soo very deserves.

I think he was expected to stay at the vets for a little while, so it might be difficult to get regular updates without disturbing the staff.  Am hoping this is the case and that little Noah is thriving.

Sorry peeps, just been taking in a mum and 4, 2 week old kits and 2 un-neutered abandonded cats so been juggling spaces round!

I got this update from G who is our trapper and actually rescued Noah (there's a bit of a back story too)

He was a stray on an estate in Bramley, and had been around for a number of months. His health had deteriorated over time, as his condition developed. He was an un-neutered male, who had obviously been unloved for some time. Noah had developed a condition which made the pads on his front paws swell and explode, therefore exposing raw flesh and leaking with blood and infection. Noah must have been in severe pain, as he carried on his life as a stray, frightened by people and being chased from pillar to post. He had continued with attempts to groom himself and had covered his once white fur in blood and fluids. Noah finally settled in a ladys bin cuboard, and began to be fed regularly by the lady, who phoned us, after being unable to access help from an animal charity ( The RSPCA, but we had better not print that incase we get into trouble!) After catching him, he was seen by the vet, and  he has turned out to be a friendly chap,  and is receiving treatment and lots of TLC. Noah has now been neutered, and after an initial bath is looking much better!
I have seen Noah today, his fur is still yellow, and his pads are still swollen but the infection has dried up. He is such a loving, friendly chap, who loves his food, and lots of attention. Noah has a treatable condition, which with a kind owner should be maintained long term.

I agree.

The ******* rspcs send out those leaflets with cute pictures (or horrific pictures), conveying the impression that they do al the can to help animals in trouble, and what do they actually do???   >:(   They should be done for false advertising.

Very glad that he's on the mend, and enjoying the TLC.  And very glad that nice lady found him and looked after him before calling you.

Mind you, how somebody could chase away any animal in that state, ratehr than trying to get help, is beyond comprehension.  It just defies belief.

My thoughts on a certain organisation are unprintable, >:( how could anyone ignore the plight of a poor animal who was in so much distress and obvious pain just look the other way is beyound comprehension,  :censored: thankfully he found his way to the lady who took pity on him and as they say the rest is history. Now hes safe and fingers crossed someone will come forward and give him the home he so deserves :Luv:

Hehe!

I'm sorry, no more pics yet (the vets need to do their work sometime!) but will endevour to get Georgina to get some more if she can (she's evry pursuasive!)

We're just waiting for Noah to finish the steroids and then he can be moved into a foster space. We're full at the moment and have some urgent cases coming in, but at least he's safe and well at the moment and will just wait until one comes up. It will of course have to be the right foster space for him, but we're willing to wait!

Title: Re: Poor poor Noah - graphic pics
Post by: wharfevalley catsprotection on March 10, 2009, 12:49:15 PM
Hey!

Noah is getting on good - he no longer has to kneel to eat his food and can support his own weight. His paws are healing and not oozing any more so we're just waiting for him to put on some more weight so he can have an operation to take off the excess skin. He'll be in the vets for another 2 weeks we reckon.

He does just eat and sleep at the moment and I don't think we've got a true sense of who this little one really is, but i'm sure his personality will come through once he's feeling better!

All good news - slow progress, but good news! I've asked for more pics but obviously it can be hard at the vets!

Sorry for the delay in updates!!!!!!!

We had a horrific rescue at the weekend - 5 adults, 7 kittens (one has died and the other is barely hanging on in there) all un-neutered, living in inches of poo and wee, flies, the lot...

They're currently at the vets and are OK, but a bit on the wild side!

OK, so Noah is doing really well and is ready for a foster space. We have a fosterer ready, but she's just lost her own cat so we want to take it slowly. He's put on LOTS of weight and still doesn't quite understand that food will now be regular and not sporadic scraps! Georgina has taken some pics but can't work out how to download them! Hopefully when he goes to his fosterer we can have new pics. He's described as a 'canny lad' at the vets and seems very bright at predicting when food is coming and he's learning to play!

He's finished his steroid injections and has now got enough weight to have his op (he may actually have had this by now) to remove the excess skin from his paws. He can now stand fully instead of using his knees to get around and they've stopped oozing!

J xxx

Yep, he's fallen on his paws with Firefox!  I'd forgotten how bad he was when we first saw him.

I need to thank Noah and his story for giving me a massive street cred boost last week.   :)

I happened to be in a strange vet and needed to go to visit a cat in their surgery pens. As we walked through to the back, a pud was laying on an examination table having some treatment done. His little foops were just like Noah's.  :( I said to the vet "Ooh! Plasmacell Pododermatitis... I haven't seen that for ages". Vet's jaw dropped and said "Are you sure you're not actually in the profession?"

Naughty, aren't I?

HAPPY RESCUE WEEK FOR NOAH!!!  :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:

It was a year ago this week that Noah came to stay with us at Adel CP - it seems longer than that!

 to Noah and Firefox !

So strange to read though this thread, it almost doesn't seem like the same cat as Noah is so happy and healthy. Must have been awful for him as a stray, as he is nervous of strangers and does love his home comforts. Still showing no inclination to escape the flat, think he just likes being a big fish in a small pond! I did know it was a year ago he was rescued, and he has had new toys from Purrs shop to celebrate.

Am not surprised he doesn't want to go out Firefox.  Probably worried he'd not be able to get back in to his fab new forever home - he's done that and been there.  Those paws are staying firmly under your table, and in your flat.  :Luv:

Big Fish is an apt tag for Noah.  ;) :)

Oh my! As a newbie to this forum I had not seen this thread before and when I opened it and saw the first photo I thought the poor kitty in the photo was surely dead. I'm so glad that Noah has been saved and now has a safe happy home to live in. Way to go Noah! You're one very special little man. :Luv2:

The photos are absolutely shocking aren't they, I can only look through squinted eyes even now! As for Noah's new home, he really has landed on his paws (gently) but we are still waiting for pics (hint, hint :poke: :poke:  :evillaugh:)
