Title: Volunteering
Post by: Kenzi on May 28, 2008, 13:03:25 PM
I am thinking about volunteering at my local rescue, but I am not too sure how I can help them out, or what would be expected of me.

Until september (when daughter starts school full time), I can only really help at weekends mainly because I dont drive and only have 2 1/2 hours while daughter is at school.

Any thoughts please.

I volunteer for the blue cross, its very flexible, basically I go when I go and do grooming and socialising (cuddling!!) - smaller rescues would probably want to you to be a bit more organised because they rely on knowing someone is turning up to do trays etc - I'm sure lots of people will give you advice, I highly recommend it!

Best thing to do is phone them and see what they need help with. Cats poo at weekends too so your bound to be in luck

I agree give them a call and see how they can use you.  I'm sure they will be more than happy to put you to work.

Another thing you may be able to help with (depending on how computer literate you are) could be keeping their website uptodate etc.  Not all voluntary needs you to actually go to the shelter!

i would definitely ask, there may be non-hands on things they need doing, like admin work, or helping with websites. Even if you go once a fortnight and take some pics for them, it would be a big help. Good luck!!
