Hi guy just wondering, apart from the big annual one at the NEC are there any other cat shows that are as good or similar to the NEC one for shopping for kitty stuff or really is it just the NEC one? Thanks.

Theres the National at Olmpyia, thats quite a big show. http://www.exhibitions.co.uk/profile.asp?EventID=817 - can't seem to get the National Cat Club website up at the moment for 2008 details.

That and the National Cat Club show in December are the only really big GCCF shows. But most shows have lots of retail outlets. How many tends to depend on the size of the show. I've been to a few area cat club shows (eg Manchester and District Cat Club show) that are good for shopping. Not as big as the Supreme of course, but lots of food and toys for sale.
-
I think the local shows are sometimes better for toys and stuff, you don't get freebies from the big companies that is all
-
I'll have to keep a look out for the smaller shows too then
-
You can find a list of GCCF shows here
http://www.gccfcats.org/showsnew.html
-
and FIFe shows here

-
I've never been to a felis one - do they show in a ring?
-
All cats are judged at the front of the show hall and there are rows of seats so people can watch the judging.
-
Thanks for all the info guys - hubby will sigh I am sure when I come home with more scratch posts and beds :evillaugh:

Brilliant, have added that to my favourites and will have a proper nose soon :thanks:
-
Seatssssssssssssssssss, where do they hold this show
What I need most at a show is somewhere to sit and watch judging ;D
-
I'd reserve judgement on the National this year as it is likely relocating to Bracknell.
Last year's show wasn't brilliant from a shopping point of view IMHO and it was pants from an exhibitor's POV - I won't be going back I don't think. Having said that, I did manage to fill the luggage compartment on the bus back to Baldock with loads of cheap RC and a freebie 12 kg bag of cat litter. :evillaugh:
Most GCCF shows have a reasonable number of stands; you usually get Purrsonal Touch and R&L plus a few other trade, then the charity and club stands. Can't say regarding FIFe shows, but the one TICA show I went to last year was abysmal regarding stalls. I'm off to another TICA show in MK next weekend, so will see if it's any different.
TICA is also ring judging, Gilly. If you bring a folding chair, you can settle down to watch quite nicely and you usually have five or so rings to choose from. ;)
-
that's why I go to tica shows Gill, you don't have the judges barging up and down the aisles you can sit and watch things, they usually have seats set out - I'm going to one at bracknell in March that is usually pretty good for toys and stuff
-
For the big one at NEC do we have a Purrs meeting?
-
there were a few who met up at NEC and I met up with Leigh, Reynard and almost Claire at Olympia! not sure where you live but there is a purrs meet up on 8 March at waterloo
-
I Nottinghamshire hun
-
Last year I met up with folks from Purrs at both the Supreme and the National - and they got to meet my cat too! ;D I'm a non-ped exhibitor btw. :)
If you're midlands-based, you might also want to try the Wyvern in September.
Dawn, you're not hopping up to the TICA show in MK next weekend are you?
-
A lot of us went to Birmingham but didnt see each other............I met Witty, Dawn DD, Lesley, Witty and Mojo........sorry if I missed any one, oh yes and Elaine ;D
I do not think I would do Birmingham again and was very disappointed with the sellers there, but have heard that the National wasnt much better.
I used to go regularily to the National in London but last time was around 2001 or 2, and liked that better.
-
no Witty, the next one I am going to is at Bracknell on 8 March (the day everyone is meeting in London - my oh is back from Italy the day before and it is a long standing date!!)
-
Bummer, Dawn. Never mind, there'll always be other shows... ;)
All being well, I should be at the London purrs get together. :)
