Mikey is still looking for a home and it must be the right home and with a very special carer.

Here is his page on the Stourbridge website

http://rspca-stourbridge.comlu.com/pages/mikey/mikey.html

Heather is still trying to sort his wheels out and its going slowly.

Re: Heather's post and 'the friend who came with a load of tissues' i think she means me!!! I had never seen an animal 'in real life' like this and was dreading it but, at the time, Heather was desperate for a break. (Not that i did much except video and fuss her other foster cat, lol!) He is so beautiful, i sort of forgot about his disability and seeing him drag Heather round the garden was unbelieveable!  :Luv2: :Luv2:  Before i'd seen him i thought he would've been better off being pts but now.....................he seems such a happy lad and, as long as he stays that way, he's  a lucky boy to have her care for him-she is an amazing lady!

I'm going to see him again on Monday and this time, remember to take my own camera, lol!

What a beautiful boy and you have my total admiration Heather

There is a lady on one of the Ebay Groups and her cat Charlie became parylised after an adverse reaction to the anaesthetic whilst being neutered,  she has been caring for him for over 2 years now and if it would help I can try and get her details for you.

Huge love and snuggles for Mikey and heaps of positive vibes (mracles do happen) xxx

Oh my what a little cutie - he looks like baby Archie who we lost last year after one glorious year at teh Clan to cancer - he had been used as a football and had a few issues but came here cause we fell sorry I fell in love with him and and bought him home where his daddy loved him as did his side kick a sole survivor from an FIP family - her Mum and 3 siblings and for one glorious year these 2 were my Doodles

If I wasn't working full time and I could convince OH he could have come here but with 48 other cats - mainly ferals and  their pets our 2 dogs me thinks it may be to busy for Mikey sadly  :(

Hi all......I'm Mikeys foster mum and I thought it was about time I came on and introduced myself and said a big thank you for all the support you are giving following Gills lovely posts  :thanks:
I just wanted to reply to a few posts too:
Mark - he saw a regular vet originally and they said they felt any movement we were seeing was just reflex. I then took him to see a neurologist and he said the same.....so there doesn't seem much hope from the experts that he will ever walk again. ...I just find it hard to beleive though that he won't improve further with what I am actually seeing him do! Do the specialists ever get it wrong??? (I didn't knickname him 'Miracle Mikey' for nothing!lol) Re his tail.....you have just voiced what I have already thought....apart from being a built in mop at times his tail at the moment serves no purpose....depending what happens in the future I don't know if removing it would perhaps be the best thing... but at the moment I wouldn't want to put him through another operation and I just feel that until enough time has passed to be completely sure, I wouldn't want to go down that route. If he's taken by surprise by something it does all puff out but I guess thats just reflex.
Jackspratt - thanks so much for posting that link....I have got a cart which Angie very kindly leant to me but at the moment he keeps slipping out of the front harness so I've not been having much luck with it unfortunately.....but I do think there would be huge value in Mikey having one made to measure so I have contacted the people at Dog mobile....have also sent them some of the videos of MIkey and am waiting to hear back....
Pudding - I understand fully your concern but just wanted to say my decision to keep him alive is not just because I can. I have thought long and hard about it and the reason I am not going to pts is because he is enjoying his life....despite it being limited. If he ends up ill, or hugely depressed and frustrated by his limitations then that would be a time to rethink the situation but whilst he is showing a real zest for life....how could I possibly take that away?
Angie - will forever be grateful of you sending me the 'Pookie' link....that really was what helped me to see things more clearly. I am already moving him quite successfully onto a raw diet and am already seeing the improvement in his poo's  :)
Skully - just a bit or reassurance really.....Mikey is thankfully not showing any signs of any sores on his legs....in fact the fur still seems completely normal thickness. The fur is a little thin on his tummy and bottom but it doesn't appear to be getting any worse as time goes by so I am hopefull it will stay as it is. I have no real surfaces in the pen that can cause any real friction.....its all lined with puppy pads so he slides quite easily across them. They are also a tremendous help in keeping him clean and dry. I use puppy pads and lots of vetbed so he actaully doesn't need a bath that often (cos you're right he does hate it! >:( ) I use 'Tushie wipes' on a daily basis and he'll only actually need a proper bath about once a fortnight beleive it or not.....so its not too bad for my little man. For an incontinent cat he keeps amazingly clean and dry.....and he cleans himself very well too. :innocent:
Gail - When I saw Mikey for the first time in the vets I cried and it did pretty much kill me. It wasn't my decision at that point whether we should pts or not but the decision wasn't being made so I just said 'one thing is for certain he's not going to show any signs of improvement sitting in a little cage all day' so thats how he ended up coming home with me. He has gone from strength to strength and now I see 'Mikey' rather than his disability. He has so much character and such a zest for life that the videos actually arent that hard to watch. I have a friend who didn't want to come and see him as she thought it would upset her too much....in the end she did come (armed with a load of tissues!lol) but she never did need them....
Gill - Just a :thanks: for all that you have done and were/are prepared to do for Mikey.

Sorry for such a long post....I just wanted to respond to each of you personally  :shy:

And finally a big thank you from this little man  ;D

Heather has now has a few days to reflect on Mikeys situation and looks like the pts situation has gone away and she is looking for that miricle home to give him the love and care that he needs for as long as he has quality of life.

Nobody knows how long that will be as he may end up with kidney or cistitus probs but right now he has quality and life and is enjoying it muchly.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo that miricle home is needed.

If in the future we need to do a financial appeal for Mikey I will let you know cos it will be run from Purrs  :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

I really feel for Heather having to try and decide what's right to do. I watch the videos and for some of them I did feel that maybe Mikey has a chance of a good quality of life, but other parts of the videos lead me to believe that all this poor cat would have is a life of sores on his hind legs due to him dragging himself along and hours of being washed and cleaned by humans, something my cat really hates.

Big hugs Heather and Mikey.

Me too. I can only imagine what Heather's going through. Mikey is a lovely boy and it's heartbreaking to think that another human being caused this situation. Sending him fusses.

I went through this with Ebony last year and I know how difficult a thing it is. I decided while Ebony was enjoying herself she should have the chance. Sadly she began to have bad fits and I did not think it was fair to carry on. However it was still a difficult decision and I wept buckets.

If you haven't seen it, look at the pookie link above and see what you think about his quality of life.....

I really think as long as he isn't in pain and can enjoy a good quality of life, there shouldn't be any question. The hard part is finding someone who will keep him clean and take care of his needs.  I know in the past, our branch has had people specifically asking for a cat with special needs - so there must be other people out there somewhere willing to take care of him.

Also (and please don't shoot me down) - I wondered if his tail is a hindrance.

I am afriad their will be no fund for Mikey  :(  Well not until the decision for his future is made.

The problem is his incontinence and Heather has been told this will not improve.

Heather is now taking some time away from CC to decide about MIkeys future, if a forever home is offered, then she will consider it but she would want to know it was the right one for Mikey.

Lifes a  :censored: sometimes   :(

Would it make his life easier if he had a wheelchair?

http://www.dogmobile-online.com/

I contacted these guys about Lilly Pumpkin when we were undecided if a wheelchair would benefit her or not. But LP responds to being touched on her back legs, whereas I get the impression Mikey doesn't.

If it would help, maybe it could be a Purrs fundraising initiative? I think they quoted around £180 as the usual price but agreed to the price being cut a bit due to LP being a rescue cat.

He would make a lovely cat for someone with the time and patience. It would be so rewarding. He really seems to be happy and he does seem healthy apart from his disability. I really hope someone will be able to take care of him  :Luv2: I'm also sure that holiday cover could be arranged with a rescue. Also, Teresa would be able to advise on toileting.

Is it a regular vet he saw or a specialist? - I'm sure some money could be raised to pay the bill.

Surely something can be done to save this lovely boy - he reminds me so much of Clapton  :Luv2:

Great videos  :) apart from the dreadful music
