Had a close look at Nivea baby sunscreen. It doesn't contain salicylates, does that mean it's safe?
In regards to salicylates yes, im sure if the other chemicals were googled they would have similar dangers! Even some of what goes in the pet stuff is nasty, precautions we had to take when handling them in pharmacy, gloves masks air extractor etc

Couldn't find it on VetUK either, but have just gone and retreived the bottle, there is a tel no and website - called Pet and Garden Manufacturing, 01659 50141
www.pet-and-garden.com
. Gives 6-8 hours protection, so only needs doing once a day.

Hannah, the vet who removed Polly's ear when it became cancerous, told me that glass intensifies uv rays. I'm not sure which is right, but on the whole she was a good vet. Unfortunately she left the practise (so have I!).

uv rays wont penetrate through glass - no need to apply if inside

Maybe the Purrs shop could diversify into pet safe suncreen and cleaning products next Spring?

Desley, I had a look at Smylee's website and couldn't find any sunblock anywhere. Do you have the link please?

My vets didn't stock it, but ordered it in for me, but it was only 1p different to getting it online, and I got it quicker through Smylee pets - if you ring up, they should be able to tell you how you can pay.

Mark, I bought a baby sunscreen over the weekend, but it's got salicylates in
I might try the vets.
Went to PAH but they didn't have any. A feline slave friend bought some from them a while ago. Don't know if they still make it.

Most sunscreens contain salicylates which are poisonous to cats - it is the same chemical found in aspirin. The one Lottie linked to doesn't seem to have it in though.

Someone on CC has contacted the manufacturers of E45 and their suncream has been discontinued, for anyone who normally uses that. I can't think of the brand of suncream I have, but it was only £5.99, available from Smylees or VetUK

Lottie, do you know if they accept Paypal?
My newbies need sunscreen which is fast-acting, as they're ex-feral and will wash it off almost immediately.
Thanks.

I would do. I plan to put it on Orion even if he is just staying inside his house just to be on the safe side if he turns out to be a cat that likes to sunbathe.

Just a quick reminder to people with white cats, red cats, silver cats or cats with white noses or ears that now is prob a good time to stock up on pet sunscreen now the sunshine is starting to show itself
This one has come very highly recommended to me:
http://www.petremedies.co.uk/product.asp?strPageHistory=search&numSearchStartRecord=1&strParents=0&CAT_ID=0&P_ID=118&btnProduct=More+Details
It is lick resistant, specifically designed for pets so perfectly safe and you only need to apply it once a day
