Sorry if this has already been mentioned (I'm ill so bear with me) but is Taz neutered? My only advice is get em both done if they're not already, wait about six weeks for the horemones to die down and you'll have a different pair of cats. If Taz has been snipped hopefully Pooka's spay will chill them both out a bit. Best of luck  :)

LOTS of people on Purrs use feliway and it's general fairly successful. I currently have one for a couple of reasons; a) Sage is a bit of a scaredy cat and it seems to make her calmer and b) Mog has dementia so it usually makes her a little better....well, on her good days. On her bad days, nothing seems to help. :tired:

I thought it was just me who had never heard of 'dressed'. It had me really confused but I was too embarassed to say anything LOL. You learn something new every day on purrs.

lay me down, let me go, feeling heavy the ground is cold,
lay me down take it slow I'm ready to stumble, sing & then swing low

I am glad you said that Dabs because I wanted to say it ages ago...

I take it you are not British then, Jecca? We've never heard the term 'dressed' to describe a spay or neutering.  :innocent:

hey i iz back :)

the pre op check is befre pooka getting dressed. to make sure shes ok,in good health etc for getting the operation tomorrow.

she has been outside, but its just in my garden, she cant get out of it so i know shes been safe and in no danger of getting pregnant. but im wanting her to get dressed for health reasons and so she doesnt go into heat again cos it realy must annoy her.

im gonna have a wee look at they trays now :wow:

I was a bit confused about the dressed comment and was thinking of cats in ball gowns for some strange reason. Yes, I know, but it has been a long and tiring day!  ;)

Anyway I understand now, you mean speyed!

Think that may be part of your problem then.  ;) Your other cat has picked up on the raging hormones, hence the changed behaviour towards her, which in turn has prob confused her and may be the reason she's pooing on the carpet. Hopefully the op will sort things out, although don't expect miracles straight away, it takes a while for the hormones to calm down after neutering.  ;D

As others have said it is important to clean the area correctly ..... as far as your cat is concerned.  Normal cleaning solutions do not get rid of the smell that attracts them back to toilet in same place.  Look at links that have been posted.  It may all seem a faff but it's worth it to stop it recurring.

BTW.  Ask vet about this problem by all means but, if Feliway/Zylkene suggested, buy it online.  I got 30 Zylkene capsules from vet for £18.63 and then bought another 30 online for £10.80.  Hate to think how much the difference would be on the Feliway.

Zylkene is a supplement rather than a drug which is supposed to chill out your cat.  Difficult to tell if it's working as I'm giving it to Dinah who stays out alot (her choice entirely as has 24/7 access) so she does tend to sleep when she comes in anyway as she s very active.

I got mine from Pet Vet Care Online   www.petvetcare.co.uk

The Feliway product imitates natural pheromones that again are aimed at chilling out your cat.  The plug in (plugs into any electrical socket) takes a while to take effect but the spray is more immediate.  I got the spray for £12.34.  I have to say I do rate the Feliway product.

I only started using the spray on Friday and so far have only had 1 pee in bath.  That sounds bad!  You know what I mean!  :evillaugh:

Don't use just soap and water to clean. Get to PAH and pick up a bottle of simple solution. It's in a White bottle and had a picture of a cat on it. It's fab stuff and is an enzyme based cleaner.

You can get both products Rosella mentioned online. (www.vetuk.co.uk are pretty good - and some of the rescues have links on their sites so they get a little financial contribution when it's used.)

Have both cats just recently started going outside? You have to remember that they'll have figured out the territory issue and now their territory is bigger so it might take them some time to get things balanced out again.

This sounds like a privacy thing to me. A hallway is a very busy place. There's no way my two would use a tray where they could suddenly be disturbed.  :-[ How about trying a doomed tray? Nice and private.  :naughty:

If stress related:

Feliway plug in
Feliway spray area that is being soiled twice a day and then, as suggested by Gill, put a food bowl (no food in it) where she normally soils
Could try Zylkene capsules sprinkled on her food to chill her out too or perhaps on Taz's food?  Not a drug so can buy without prescription.
Can you not separate trays as much as possible to give her different pee/poo areas (we have trays in bedrooms)

Certainly need to put down something to protect carpet.  You can get rolls of plastic carpet protector until she breaks the habit.

I'm currently having similar problems but mainly involves bathroom tiles which are easier to clean

she has a pre operation check tomorrow at the vet so i could metion it then? :scared:

im just trying to think where to put the the other litter tray... :scared:(i live in a small one bedroom flat) my kitchen is tiny.. :'(

right well,to clean the area i use soap and water first then 1001 stain remover for carpets after..

i dont know why she would be stressed? :scared: shes just became an outdoor cat, which is obv a big change for her,but shes been doing this befre he went outdoors...

my other cat taz has been a little different with her as of late tho,he used to cuddle her etc but now he hits her and spits at her?

i have no idea what has changed his behaviour towards pooka..maybe thats why shes stressed out...

but i dont know how i could take way the stress.. :(

I think that you have just answered your own question, she is being bullied by your otehr cat. He could be guarding the litter trays and bullying her while she is on them, which will out her off.

I know that you said you can only put the trays in the hall, but if they are together then Taz will seek her out, the poor gilrl will then have no option but to mess.

I would suggest giving some thought to firstly having her checked out by a vet to make sure that there is no problems healthwise and then look at putting another tray elsewhere for her to use and see if that improves the situation.

You can ease her stress, it just needs a bit of forethought that is all.  ;D

Middening as it is known is in response to the cat being stressed and trying to reassure herself that all is well. The habit needs to be broken and fast before it becomes ingrained.

FAB offer some good advice.

How are you cleaning the area?

Look in our guides section and there is one for how to clean the area right.

Once cleaned I would put down a piece of plastic and put her food dish in the middle and then sit back and watch what happens.

hey,looking for some help!

ok il explaiin everything first, my cat trays are both in my hallway(only room i have in the house for the trays) and they are cleaned daily etc.

recently pooka has been pooing beside the front door on the carpet  it is realy realy annoying me now,and i dont know how to stop her from doing it!

the trays are cleaned and poop scooped EVERYDAY and properly cleaned and emptied every 2nd day or so. so i cant see it being that. i just realy need her to stop it,i live in a rented flat(which is allowed pets) bt i have a cream carpet and i dont want it ruining the carpet :scared:

she does it everyday though and im at the end of my tether!!!

any advice would be much appreciated!
