We buried her in my garden today. It took ages to dig the hole as I wanted it about 3ft so she'd be safe. She has some toys with her, a painting of a cat which I did ages ago and she fell in love with, a tin of her favourite Whiskas, an ankh, catnip and a chunk of rose quartz, and of course a toy mouse. We even gave her two pennies to pay the boatmen, just in case she travels that way.

I am so sorry to hear this HK, but she had such a long life with you, it is a good testament to your love. I know how awful it is to see a cat fitting, that is how I lost my first cat, but she is at peace now. I am glad the others are helping you by being extra affectionate, do take care of yourself. RIP little one

Thank you for your kind words.

The vet had arranged her in a curled position. I took her out of the vet's towel and wrapped her in one of my old jumpers from the washing - it smelled of me. Samantha was around and seemed to know what was going on.

Samantha seems to be coping by being extra affectionate towards me and making friends with Fred. Fred is also being much closer to me. They seem to be saying "we still need you too!" and missing her also, maybe. I'm giving them extra love because I need them lots right now. She was a great cat, a cheeky little survivor. I'm so glad she was in my life for so many years, though it hurts to remember now I hope the time will come when I can remember her without wanting to cry.

I'm so sorry about Polly and that you had such a very difficult last few hours with her. I don't think she would have been aware of very much while she was fitting as it takes over the whole brain.

Wow, HK - 22.

I'm so sorry Polly suffered so much stress before she let go, but I know you'll have done everything within your power to make her comfortable, happy and feel loved.

I'm also sorry for your loss and hope you're coping. It's never easy to lose a furry family member and I know how much you love your lot.

Sorry HK

22 is good age but it still isn't any consolation. I think she would have been "out of it" when she was fitting so don't think she would have suffered

Polly went to the Bridge last night.
Yesterday Polly was bumping into things and appeared to be blind. I gave her lots of cuddles and decided to see how she got on for a few hours before panicking. At about 6pm she began having seizures. She had a cluster about two months ago, but got over it. I had been given vials of diazepam to squirt up her bum if this happened again. So I ran to get them, panicking all the way to the kitchen, and tried, unsuccessfully, to administer a dose. Unfortunately I hadn't pushed it in far enough. I rang a friend who has a very logical mind and decided to give her the other vial; this attempt was more successful.

She relaxed into a sleep for about 30mins before seizing again. This didn't stop and she was in a continuous fit for about four hours. I tried giving her oral diazepam, but it had no effect.

She was much worse than last time, writhing her back into a u shape and continually jerking. She wasn't "with it" at all. Initially, I thought she'd come out of it, but she didn't.

Something about her told me she wanted me to let her go. I decided to take her to an emergency vet and pts. Two friends came with me. We didn't go to VetsNow. I rang them, but their attitude was so cold - using callous sounding abbreviations like "the price depends on indiv crem" and "if you just want euth and not consult that will only be £60" I was horrified at the thought that a vet wouldn't look at her to give an opinion regarding her prognosis.  So I took her to a dedicated emergency vet clinic.

The vet gave a detailed and considered account of Polly's illness and prognosis and we came to the conclusion that the kindest course was to pts.

The friends who were with me cried, as did I. I've been crying all night. Later today, myself and a friend are burying her in my garden.

I know she lived to be an old cat (22), but I wish she'd had a gentler death. Maybe she'll soon be a kitten again, living a new life.
Cats were once gods; they have never forgotten this, nor have the people they own.
